What is Costco’s air mattress return policy? According to Costco’s air mattress return policy, you can essentially return an air mattress at any point in time after purchase, without questions asked. The great news for Costco members is that their Costco return policy extends to air mattresses!

What Is Costco’s Return Policy?

One of the many benefits of being a Costco member is their great return policy. They are serious about customer satisfaction and will offer a full refund for the price of the returned item in most cases. 

This includes both merchandise purchased at Costco and your actual Costco membership. 

Costco also doesn’t really set a time limit for most of their returns, which is the biggest thing that is different from other retailers.

Instead, members are able to return almost any item, after any amount of time, with or without a receipt. 

You would still need the original packaging of the item so the customer service personnel can scan it in, but they almost always operate on a no-questions asked policy. 

Of course, if your item is a perishable product you purchased over a year ago, it’s not likely that Costco will refund you, same goes for an item that has clearly been deliberately destroyed.

Such as a cooler covered in permanent marker, or a piece of furniture that has been soiled on by pets. 

Costco also has some exceptions to their lenient policy.

What Are Some Exceptions To Costco’s Return Policy?

Just like any other retailer, there are certain items that Costco does set stricter guidelines on. 

First, on electronics. Costco does set a time limit for electronics returns, which they will only accept within 90 days from the date of purchase.

Electronics include:

• TVs,
• Projectors, 
• Major appliances, 
• Computers, 
• Tablets, 
• Smart watches, 
• Cameras, 
• Drones, Camcorders, 
• MP3 Players, and 
• Phones. 

Next, for diamonds that are 1.00ct or larger, they must be returned with the original paperwork they were purchased with.

The diamond will also be inspected by a Graduate Gemologist before the customer is given their refund. 

Next, cigarettes and alcohol are not accepted for a return when they are prohibited by other state laws from doing so. Each state has their own laws regarding cigarette and alcohol returns, so you would have to check with your local Costco. 

And as for products that have a limited time of useful life, such as a tire, battery, etc, may be assigned a product specific warranty. This will be provided for you when you purchase the item.

And finally, any special orders or custom products are unable to be returned. 

As I’m sure you noticed, air mattresses are not included in this list of exceptions.

How Do Mattresses Fit Into The Return Policy?

Costco air mattresses are not one of their few exceptions, which means they fall under the broad Costco return policy without any additional restrictions. 

So, say you purchased an air mattress for a visit from the in-laws that didn’t end up happening, the mattress was stored in your closet and forgotten for a year. You would still be able to return it! 

If you purchase a mattress, try it out, find out you don’t like it and forget to make another trip to Costco for six months, you can return the opened mattress as well. 

If your mattress comes with a hole, starts leaking, or won’t inflate after using it for a year, Costco will likely still take it back as long as it doesn’t appear that you’ve broken it on purpose. 

How Do I Return An Air Mattress Purchased Online?

If you purchased your air mattress online you still qualify for the same return policy!

You can choose to send your air mattress back in the mail, or you can return it to a local Costco.

How Does Costco’s Return Policy On Air Mattresses Compare To Other Retailers? 

We are going to take a look at two other major retailers that sell air mattresses: Walmart and Target. 

Walmart allows air mattresses to be returned after they’ve been opened, as long as they are in good condition.

However, they do set a 90-day timeframe for your return. So, if you want to return one to Walmart, you need to realize this soon and make sure you can get it back in time. 

Walmart doesn’t require a receipt, like Costco, but they will keep track of how many orders you’ve made without a receipt and may stop you from making returns if they determine you’ve abused their system. 

Target has a much stricter return policy for air mattresses. While they will take an unopened mattress back for a full refund, once the mattress has been opened it is no longer eligible for that.

At this point Target will only offer an exchange for a similar item. 

Target imposes a one year time limit for most of their returns, and will often require a receipt with the product. Although some locations may not be as strict about this. 

All-in-all, Costco’s policy is much more lenient than both Walmart and Target.

Costco’s lenient return policy extends to air mattress purchases made both in-stores and online. If you’re dissatisfied for any reason, after any amount of time has passed, Costco will likely accept your return back. 

There are only a few scenarios where your return may be denied, but Costco has grown a reputation for their return policy and is more worried about customer satisfaction than losing money on a product.
