Kohl’s is the largest department store chain in the United States (as of December 2021) and they operate over 1,100 locations across the country. You can find a Kohl’s in nearly every single state, apart from Hawaii, so chances are you’ve seen them around.

What Is the Standard Kohl’s Return Policy?

Kohl’s actually has a very generous returns policy. For most of their items, you have 180 days from the original purchase date to make a return, and you don’t even need to bring a receipt!

For anything that is eligible for standard returns, there are also no restrictions on the specific condition that the product needs to be brought back in. You should even be able to return items that have been worn, used, or washed!

What Is the Kohl’s Electronics Return Policy?

There are a few exceptions to the 180-day rule though, and “premium electronics” is one of them.

For premium electronics and watches, you only have 30 days in which to make a return. That is a considerable difference from what you get for their other items, and it’s not a lot of time to decide that you’re not happy with your purchase.

Another limitation with premium electronics is that they have to be returned with their original packaging and a valid receipt, or another proof of purchase (if the payment was made through a Kohl’s account, for example).

Electronics are not the only items that have slightly more limitations on their returns: beauty products have to be returned within 60 days, with a receipt or proof of purchase, and in new or gently used condition.

What Products are Considered Premium Electronics?

The terminology is a little vague when you’re talking about premium electronics. Interestingly enough, though, Kohl’s is not specifically referring to high-value electrical items, because many large appliances still come under the 180-day returns policy.

When they say “premium electronics”, Kohl’s is generally referring to things like cables, PC and console equipment, audio equipment, cameras, etc.

How Do You Make Electronics Returns At Kohl’s?

To return an item to Kohl’s you have a few different options, and it depends on how and where you bought it. If you purchased the item in-store, then it has to be returned in-store. This can be done via the Customer Service counter, or through their new Self Returns system.

If you bought an item at Kohls.com, then you can choose whether to bring the product into a store, or use their mail returns system.

If you want to return a Kohl’s Marketplace product, then you can either return it directly to the certified partner, by attaching a return shipping label and dropping it off at the nearest shipping center, or you can return it to a Kohl’s store.

Kohl’s In-Store Returns

Possibly the easiest way to make a return is by taking it to the store. All you need to do is bring your item to the Customer Service counter and ask for some assistance.

When you’re returning premium electronics, you will need to make sure the product is in its original packaging, and that you have a valid proof of purchase.

If you’re making a return in-store, then you may be eligible for an exchange as well as a refund.

Kohl’s Self Return

You might be able to get the whole process done more quickly by using their new Self Return system, which also accepts electronics. It’s not available everywhere just yet, but you can check your local store on their list.

To make a Self Return, all you need to do is:

  1. Take your product to the Self Returns station in the store.
  2. Scan the QR code at the station
  3. Select the proof of purchase you want to use (scan an in-store receipt, look up an online order, look up a card purchase)
  4. Scan a Self Returns bag
  5. Place all your items in the bag and tie it up
  6. Drop your bag off at the Self Returns bin

Once your Self Return has been completed, you should get your refund in 7-10 business days. It’s important to note that you can only get a refund using Self Returns on items purchased with a credit card. They won’t process returns for cash, gift cards, Kohl’s merchandise credit, or debit cards that used PIN.

Kohl’s Mail Returns

To make a return via mail, you will need a Return Form and your Order Invoice Form from your Kohl’s account. One should have been included with your item when it was shipped to you. Then, you need to pack your item in a sturdy box and send it, along with all of its merchandise tags, to:

Unfortunately, Kohl’s won’t provide you with a return shipping label, and you will have to pay for any postage. You also won’t be able to get an exchange through the mail, but you should still receive a full refund within around 30 days.

How Does Kohl’s Handle Refunds?

Your refund will generally be credited directly to the purchase method that was used when the product was first bought. You can, for example, get a refund on items that you bought using Kohl’s Cash, but it will be returned as Kohl’s Cash.
