Who Makes ALDI Beer? (Are They Good, Quality, Reviews + More)

Who Makes ALDI Beer

ALDI is known for having an interesting selection of great value products, but who actually makes the beers that they sell, and are they any good?

The beers at ALDI are made by several different companies, and the selection changes depending on where you are. In the US, the breweries that they source from include Swinkels Family Brewers, Brouwerij Martens NV, State of Brewing, Cervecería Centro Americana, and Wernesgrüner Brauerei AG.

To find out more about these breweries, and the beers that you can find on the shelves at ALDI, read on ahead!

Does ALDI Make Their Own Beers?

Almost all of the beers that you can find at ALDI are exclusive to their stores, but that doesn’t mean that they manufacture the beverages themselves.

Instead, established breweries will make the beers for them and package them under ALDI’s branding to be sold through their network.

ALDI is actually pretty proud of the beers that they sell, and they have strong relationships with the breweries they use. You can easily find out the source of most of their beers by looking at the labels, and you will quickly notice that they come from all over the world.

Do All ALDI Shops Sell The Same Beer?

ALDI is notorious for having a different selection depending on where in the world you are shopping. If you’re buying beers at an ALDI in Europe, you can expect to find some very different labels than you would in the United States.

Another interesting thing about shopping at ALDI is that you can never be sure exactly what will be in stock when you arrive, so it can be a bit of a gamble if you’re looking for something in particular.

To investigate what options you might have, though, we can look at some of the most popular beers that ALDI often has at locations throughout the United States and on their website.

What Beers Does ALDI Sell and Who Makes Them?

On the shelves at an ALDI store in the US, you are likely to spot some, if not all, of these beers.

Let’s take a look at each one and see who actually brews them, where they come from, and what people are saying about how they taste.

Brens Lager – Brouwerij Martens NV

Brens Lager is one of the simpler beers that ALDI offers. It is a classic Belgian lager that comes from the Brouwerij Mertens brewery, which has its headquarters in the small municipality of Bocholt, Belgium.

It is a 5% lager that is generally well-received for its crisp, floral taste and refreshing sweetness.

This particular beer has a good rating of 83% from reviews at BeerAdvocate and a 3.1/5 from Untappd.

White Tide Belgian White Ale – Brouwerij Martens NV

Another Belgian option from the people at Brouwerij Martens is the White Tide Belgian Ale. It is also 5% ABV, but that’s about where the similarities end with its lager cousin.

It is a cloudy pale ale that has quite a strong wheaty flavor, with hints of citrus and spice that really lift it.

White Tide has a rating of 86% from BeerAdvocate, which is considered “very good”, and a 3.4/5 from Untappd.

Hopping Nomad IPA – State of Brewing

Hopping Nomad IPA is one of a few beers at ALDI that are made by the Wisconsin-based brewery State of Brewing (owned by the larger Octopi brewing company).

It’s a 4.5% pale ale with a strong hoppy taste, and it’s quite citrusy and refreshing.

Hopping Nomad has a rating of 82% at BeerAdvocate, and 3.5/5 at Untappd.

Brecken Bock – State of Brewing

The second on our list from Wisconsin’s State of Brewing is Brecken Bock – though it won’t be the last.

This 4.5% bock-style lager has the taste of an American classic, perfect for BBQs on a hot summer’s day. It’s smooth with a hint of caramel, but it’s not particularly malty.

This beer also has a good BeerAdvocate rating, at 82%, and an Untappd rating of 3.4/5.

Merchants Keep IPA – State of Brewing

The last State of Brewing beer that we’re going to look at is the Merchants Keep IPA, one of the favorites at ALDI.

This pale ale is a little stronger, at 6%, and it has a fresh, hoppy aroma to it. It’s not overly heavy, and it has good hints of citrus throughout.

Merchants Keep is rated as very good on BeerAdvocate, at 85%, and has a 3.4/5 at Untappd.

Wernesgrüner Pilsner – Brauerei AG

Pilsners are often a little more controversial than other beers, and the Wernesgrüner that ALDI sells, from Wernesgrüner Brauerei AG in Germany, is no exception.

Perhaps better for those who have a real taste for pilsners in general, this is a crisp, bold, and refreshing beer.

Wernesgrüner Pilsner has a 79% rating on BeerAdvocate and a 3.4/5 on Untappd.

Holland Lager 1839 – Swinkels Family Brewers

This pale lager from Swinkels Family Brewers in the Netherlands is not quite as well regarded as some of ALDI’s other offerings, though it is still a good option.

It does not have a particularly strong flavor but it’s very drinkable.

The BeerAdvocate rating for Holland Lager 1839 is 74%, which is considered “okay”, and it has an Untappd rating of 3.1/5.

Monterrey Cerveza – Cerveceria Centro Americana

Perhaps the least popular of the ALDI beers, Monterrey Cerveza is a yellow lager from the Cerveceria Centro Americana brewery in Guatemala.

It is a golden lager with a light taste, and it is certainly inoffensive, if not very exciting.

This beer has a 69% rating on BeerAdvocate, and a 2.9/5 on Untappd.

Conclusion

So, who makes ALDI beer? Well, many breweries from around the world produce beers for ALDI, and the selection will be quite different depending on where it is that you are shopping.

In the US, the main beers that you will often find on ALDI’s shelves are made by State of Brewing, Brouwerij Martens, Swinkels Family Brewers, Wernesgrüner Brauerei, and Cerveceria Centro Americana.

Almost all of the beers at ALDI are pretty well-reviewed, particularly if you consider the price tags, though Merchants Keep IPA and White Tide Belgian White Ale are possible the public’s favorites.
