Who Makes IKEA Appliances? (Are They Good?)

Who Makes IKEA appliances

Do you know who makes IKEA appliances? Well, you are at the perfect place to find the answer to such a question.

IKEA is known for manufacturing much of their own furniture products and even imports some of their delicious food offerings from Sweden. If you’re doing a remodel you may be curious if you should be replacing your appliances using IKEA models. But, before you jump in, it’s important to know who makes IKEA appliances; Does IKEA manufacture them themselves?

Whirlpool manufactures the majority of IKEAs appliances. IKEA does not manufacture their appliances themselves. However, IKEA partners with a well known North America based brand for their appliances.

In this article, we will discuss which appliances from IKEA are made by Whirlpool, the quality of their appliances, and where they are manufactured.

What Appliances Are Offered By IKEA?

IKEA carries any appliance you might be wanting, including dishwashers, fridges, ovens, cooktops, microwaves, and more!

While they are branded with IKEA’s Swedish names, this is a deceiving marketing tactic as none of these products are manufactured by Swedish companies.

Most of their appliances are manufactured by Whirlpool, a well-known company responsible for high-quality appliances that are sold throughout the U.S.

Let’s take a look at a couple of the specific appliances and their price points that are offered by IKEA.

IKEA Dishwashers

IKEA dishwashers are made by Whirlpool! But, they have a variety of different options to suit different price point needs. Their cheapest dishwasher, the LAGAN model is priced at only $349 and their most expensive model, the SPOLAD, is priced at $949.

All IKEA dishwashers, besides the LAGAN model, come with a five-year warranty, just as other Whirlpool dishwashers do. The LAGAN model only includes a two-year warranty.

However, Whirlpool is known to manufacture high-quality dishwashers that last for years, making an IKEA dishwasher a great purchase.

IKEA Fridges

IKEA fridges are also made by Whirlpool! All of these also come with Whirlpool’s five-year warranty, besides the budget LAGAN model that again only comes with the two-year warranty.

The LAGAN fridge is IKEA’s cheapest model at only $699. However, their fridges are priced up to the ÖVERSKÅDLIG french door model which is priced at $3,199.

IKEA Ranges

IKEA sells a variety of Whirlpool brand ranges, ranging from their inexpensive $629 LAGAN to their $1,299 TVÄRSÄKER! Again, these are a high quality option and will mesh nicely into your kitchen re-model, especially if you’re using IKEA brand cabinets.

Where Is Whirlpool Located?

Whirlpool is a North American based company that originally started in 1911 in Benton Harbor, Michigan. They have been making quality appliances for 100 years and are one of the most trusted appliance brands out there.

Most of their products are manufactured in the U.S. as well! For example, their dishwashers are made in their Finlay, Ohio warehouse, and all of their other products are manufactured right in the USA, with the exception of their microwaves.

Whirlpool microwaves are currently still manufactured in Asia, however, this is the only Whirlpool appliance not manufactured in the U.S. and it is unknown if Whirlpool is planning on changing this anytime soon.

Does IKEA Partner With Any Other Appliance Manufacturer Besides Whirlpool?

Although Whirlpool is the main manufacturer of their appliances, there are also rumors that IKEA has partnerships with Renlig, LG, and Asko.

It isn’t really possible to tell which manufacturer produces specific IKEA models, but we do know that the majority of their appliances are sourced from Whirlpool.

LG may make a few of their fridge models, Renlig some dishwashers, and ASk some of the cooktops and stoves. However, Whirlpool is their main appliance partner.

Is It Worth It To Purchase An Appliance From IKEA?

Well, now that you know Whirlpool manufactures IKEA appliances you may be curious if it is worth it to purchase from IKEA instead of Whirlpool themselves, or other carriers of Whirlpool such as Home Depot or Lowes.

The biggest consideration to make here is whether you live close enough to an IKEA to pick up your appliances in person. If you do, then it makes sense to purchase your appliances from the same place as the rest of your kitchen remodel goods.

IKEA appliances are also designed to fit in seamlessly with their cabinets, which makes it easy to find the correct size.

However, if you are just replacing your appliances and don’t live near an IKEA the shipping costs may be prohibitive.

IKEA shipping for appliances starts at $99, and keeps rising the farther away you live from an IKEA warehouse.

So, while you are guaranteed good quality, it may make more sense to shop from a local appliance store that carries Whirlpool, or get your appliances shipped from Home Depot or Lowes, where your shipping is often free.

If you aren’t needing an IKEA kitchen specific appliance and are simply looking at replacing a few within your current kitchen, it may be better to shop locally and save some money on shipping costs.

Conclusion

IKEA lovers hoping to complete their entire kitchen remodel without leaving the store can rejoice in the knowledge they don’t have to sacrifice quality for the aesthetics of an IKEA appliance.

Whirlpool is one of the highest quality manufacturers of appliances out there, and their extensive five-year warranty is just another bonus that transfers to IKEA appliances.

The only real downside to an appliance purchase from IKEA comes in the shipping costs for those of us unlucky to live far away from the nearest IKEA warehouse.

But, knowing that Whirlpool manufactures them may help you find similar appliances at your local appliance or home improvement store.
