What Do NAPA Battery Warranties Cover in Canada?

When you purchase a NAPA automotive battery, you’ll be provided with the warranty information. You should notice a heading that says, “NAPA Batteries Limited Warranty Statement” at the top.

Upon review of that statement, you’ll see that the warranty will not apply until the NAPA Auto Parts staff has been given the opportunity to run the appropriate tests on your covered battery to determine what’s wrong with it.

This is because the warranty does not apply to batteries that are only discharged. It’s meant to cover batteries that are defective.

The NAPA battery warranty covers faulty production and defective materials. It does not cover batteries that can be repaired or recharged.

What Are the Battery Replacement Warranty Periods?

NAPA Auto Parts provides several different types of vehicle batteries. The three main warranty period lengths are 18, 24, and 36 months. Let’s look at a break down of what falls into which warranty period.

Within 18 or 36 Months

The Legend Premium AGM batteries come with either an 18 or 36 month warranty.

When you purchase the budget-friendly option you’ll get an 18-month warranty period, while the higher powered batteries are covered for up to 36 months.

Within 24 or 30 Months

This warranty period covers The Legend batteries and The Legend Import batteries.

The coverages remain the same regardless of the type of battery you choose, but the time frame for which the coverages apply may be longer or shorter.

Within 18 or 24 Months

PowerStart batteries fall within the 18 to 24 month warranty periods.

You also get a 24-month warranty period for PROFORMER AUTOMOTIVE batteries. PROFORMER COMMERCIAL batteries are only covered under warranty for 12 months.

What Do I Need to Make a Warranty Claim?

You must keep your original invoice to use when you make a warranty claim. It shows the date you made your purchase which determines the calculated warranty coverage dates.

Automotive batteries also have stickers attached to them when they’re new. The sticker has an identifying serial number tag that’s unique to the battery. The sticker should be attached to the invoice from when you purchased the battery.

When you provide the invoice with the sticker attached, the NAPA technician can verify whether you’re replacing the original battery or one after the original was replaced.

This is important because replacing the battery does not extend the warranty any further. The technician needs to know the original date and serial number for the purchased battery.

Does the NAPA Battery Warranty Cost Extra?

The battery warranty comes with the purchase of a new battery. You do not get charged anything extra to acquire the warranty coverage.

When you bring your battery in for testing, bring your invoice paperwork with you, just in case. If testing reveals a problem covered under the warranty, you can get a free replacement that day.

NAPA will not charge anything for the test or the replacement.

Does NAPA Install Battery Warranty Free Replacements?

The installation of the battery is also part of the warranty coverage. Your NAPA Auto Parts technician or service representative will install the new battery for you for no additional charge.

The free replacement includes the installation, as well.

Why Does NAPA Limit the Battery Warranty?

Companies like NAPA Auto Parts have to limit their warranties because it’s too expensive not to. Automotive batteries that aren’t maintained properly won’t last as long as those that are.

It’s bad business to allow customers who don’t take care of their vehicles to get free batteries because of the lack of care.

Final Thoughts

The NAPA battery warranty in Canada is fair and on par with those of its competitors. It’s meant to give customers cost effective options for getting a replacement battery when theirs doesn’t perform as it should.

Make sure to keep your invoice with the serial number sticker affixed to the front. Should you need a replacement battery within your warranty period, bring the invoice along with the defective battery to make your claim.
