Is Nectar Mattress Good For A Heavy Person? (Review + More)

is nectar mattress good for heavy person

Lindsey, do you know if a Nectar mattress is good for a heavy person? This is one of the questions our readers ask a lot. Well, we´ve got you covered.

There are so many mattress options out there–and all the companies claim to be the perfect mattress for every type of sleeper. Is this even possible?

Nectar Mattresses will be good options for heavyweight sleepers that like the contouring of memory foam and sleep on their backs or sides. Nectar provides memory foam mattresses that are 12” thick and provide high-density foam that is supportive.

However, Heavy people who are stomach sleepers may not get enough support from memory foam.

Read on for everything you need to know if you are over 230 lbs. and considering the Nectar mattress.

What are the Features of a Nectar Mattress?

Nectar features three different types of mattress–the Nectar Mattress, the Nectar Premier Mattress, and the Nectar Premier Copper Mattress.

All of them are made from 5 layers of memory foam and claim to suit all types of sleepers. The layers are made from “medical-grade Certi-pur LUSH and Hi-CORE” foam, along with a cooling cover layer.

The Nectar Premier promises less motion transfer, is an inch deeper than the regular Nectar, and has dual-action cooling technology. In addition, the premier has additional pressure relieving materials.

The Nectar Premier Copper is good for hot sleepers. It is two inches taller than the regular Nectar and includes triple action cooling technology and has the best pressure relieving technology.

All the Nectar mattresses promise good air flow and circulation, though the Copper has adaptive air flow to keep you and any sleeping partners cool.

What Are the Types of Mattresses?

Mattresses come in three types these days: innerspring, hybrid, and memory foam.

Nectar mattresses are made entirely out of memory foam, with no metal coils. Memory foam molds to your body as you sleep and bounces back once you are up.

The advantage of this is that it reduces the pressure on your body when it presses against the mattress. It also limits the movement of the mattress.

Innerspring mattresses are the old school mattresses we all grew up sleeping on, with metal coils within a cloth layer.

Typically, the coils are connected to one another in a thick layer, and there may be very thin cushioning on the top and bottom of the mattress.

Innerspring mattresses are bouncy and firm and provide a lot of support as the coils push against your body. This may increase the pressure on your body, however.

A hybrid mattress contains coils encased within foam, and typically the coils are individually encased in fabric rather than connected to one another, which allows them to move independently from each other.

Hybrid mattresses aim to be the best of both worlds–the support of the innerspring with the cushy feel of foam.

What is a Nectar Mattress Made Out Of?

Memory foam is made from a combination of polyurethane and polyurethane foam. According to Nectar, this combination allows for a unique combination of viscosity and elasticity.

This allows the mattress to form to your sleeping shape while you are in the bed, but then return to its original form once you are no longer sleeping.

What Types of Sleepers are Nectar Mattresses For?

Nectar prides itself on making a mattress that is good for any body type or sleeper–heavy, light, back, side, front.

The layers include one layer of fast-recovery gel memory foam, along with layers of medical-grade cooling foam and a base layer of high-density base foam.

All of these different layers promise to provide both cooling and support for all body types.

Is the Nectar Mattress Firm?

Nectar ranks at 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale. One is the least firm/most soft (like a pillow) and 10 is basically sleeping on the ground.

Nectar believes this firmness number is the best combination of comfort and support for all sleepers. Heavyweight sleepers will often benefit from mattresses in this range.

How Do I Choose A Mattress?

Mattresses and sleep comfort are completely matters of personal preference, so if you are shopping for a mattress, it’s a good idea to go find a place where you can try a bunch and get a sense of what type of mattress you prefer. Firm? Cushy? Breathable? Do you run hot when you sleep?

Your sleep position also matters–different mattresses are advisable for different types of sleepers.

If you want a lot of support, you may want to go with coils, in an innerspring or hybrid-type mattress.

Cost also matters. You can get each type of mattress at a variety of price points, so once you figure out what type of mattress is good for you, you may want to shop around.

Is Nectar Mattress Good for Heavy People?

As we said, mattress comfort is subjective. According to Tuck.com, the Nectar Mattress is a “Best Value” mattress for heavyweight sleepers–over 230 lbs.

They liked that the mattress is 12” in height, which provides extra support for heavy people.

Nectar’s dense polyfoam was found to provide spinal support for a range of sleepers including heavier people, and the mattress is silent so you won’t wake up your partner no matter how much moving around you might do.

That said, Mattressclarity.com didn’t love the Nectar for heavier people, since the memory foam is not as supportive as coils.

It is possible that back sleepers under 300 lbs will do fine since the mattress will support them, though it may not provide enough support for side and stomach sleepers.

Side sleepers may be heavy enough to fall through the comfort layer, which would put more pressure on body pressure points. Stomach sleepers will not have enough neck support with the Nectar.

Is the Nectar Mattress a Good Deal?

Nectar also ranked highly on price, beating the price of many other memory foam options. As of this writing, the regular queen Nectar mattress retails for $1500, though it was on sale for $800.

If you can find a sale on Nectar, it can be a great deal.

It also provides a 365-day return policy. Plus, you get a lifetime warranty if there is ever a flaw in your mattress.

Other Benefits of Memory Foam

Nectar claims that memory foam mattresses are the best type of mattress for all sleepers since memory foam has the unique ability to form your body, which reduces pressure points but also provides the firmness needed for deep sleep.

Memory foam also reduces motion transfer, so if you are sleeping with a partner, you won’t disturb each other while moving during the night.

Due to its density, the foam doesn’t provide a hospitable environment to mites, viruses, bacteria, fungus, and dust. If you have allergies, a memory foam mattress may be the best option for you.

Memory foam is quiet! No more creaking or squeaking bed springs.

Memory foam mattresses typically do not need a box spring, due to their thickness and support.

Memory foam lasts on average 8-10 for medium or high-density foam. This may be slightly less for heavy-weight sleepers, who may wear out a mattress faster, though this is a good reason for heavy sleepers to look into memory foam.

Many sleepers find that memory foam is cooler, as most mattresses include a cooling layer that allows for air circulation in the mattress.

Conclusion

Sleep comfort depends on the sleeper, though heavier people may need a more supportive mattress than what a memory foam mattress can provide.

If you like memory foam, however, the Nectar will be a good choice for you.
