Does Nectar Mattress Get Softer? (Nectar Mattress Review)

does nectar mattress get softer

Lindsey, do you know if Nectar mattresses get softer or what is the adjustment period for Nectar mattresses? This is one of the questions our readers ask a lot. Well, we´ve got you covered.

If you’ve purchased a mattress in a box before, you know that sometimes they are pretty firm. In fact, the major complaint with mattresses online is that they don’t soften up over time and never feel like a mattress from a store. So, if you’re considering purchasing a Nectar mattress but are curious if they get softer, you’ve come to the right place.

Nectar mattresses will soften up over time! It may take up to 72 hours for your mattress to fully expand and up to 30 days for you to adjust to your new mattress!

In this article, we will discuss the softness level of nectar mattresses, the adjustment period for new mattresses, and the best ways to break in your nectar mattress!

Are Nectar Mattresses Soft?

Nectar mattresses are not going to be the fluffiest mattresses out there. They are made from three different layers.

  • Tencel cooling cover,
  • Three layers of memory foam, and
  • Breathable base layer.

They use super-premium and medical-grade Certi-pur LUSH and Hi-CORE foam in the memory foam layers. The foam layers include a:

  • 1-inch, semi-open, fast-recovery gel memory foam.
  • 3-inch 3.5lb memory foam with medical-grade cooling and recovery levels; and a
  • 2.2lb high-density base foam.

Regarding the softness, on a scale from 1 to 10, Nectar rates their mattress with a 6.5 score. In this system, we are assuming that 1 is a cement floor and 10 is a feather pillow.

If you’re not familiar with memory foam mattresses, it may be important to understand how these work so you don’t purchase a Nectar mattress with unrealistic expectations.

Are Memory Foam Mattresses Soft?

It is important that you don’t expect a memory foam mattress to feel like a mattress with coils. This isn’t realistic.

Memory foam is soft, but it is body conforming, and isn’t the fluffy material you may think of when you think about a mattress.

However, there are many benefits to buying a memory foam mattress, including:

  • The surface conforms to the curves of your body which allows for better spine alignment,
  • It is more flexible and less dense to the pressure/heat from bodies,
  • It minimizes motion transfer on the bed,
  • It can last for 8-10 years,
  • It is rare to find microorganisms in a memory foam mattress which can lessen the chance of eye, nose, and throat irritation,
  • It is quiet and doesn’t squeak with motion,
  • Many include cooling technology, and
  • Box springs aren’t needed with memory foam mattresses.

What Is The Adjustment Period For A New Mattress?

It generally takes customers who’ve purchased a Nectar mattress up to 30 days to adjust to it. While it will only likely take around 72 hours for your mattress to fully expand, this doesn’t mean your body will adjust to it in 72 hours.

You don’t have to wait 72 hours before using your bed, in fact, it may even be best to use your bed frequently during those 72 hours to help it decompress.

If you’re shocked it takes so long for it to reach the full 11 inches, we can help demystify that process for you!

In order for a Nectar mattress to be shipped, all of the foam layers have to be compressed with over 15,000 pounds per square inch! And then the bed is vacuum sealed!

It takes time for the layers to expand after this, and many factors can affect the length of time it takes for the bed to fully decompress, including air pressure, air flow, and temperature.

How Do I Break In A New Mattress?

There are a few tips we can discuss that should help you break in your Nectar mattress within those 30 days. During this time the mattress will expand and soften and start to adapt to your body and sleeping styles.

First, you should let the mattress breathe! Once you unpack it you should let the mattress sit in your room and expand. Don’t immediately put the sheets and blankets on as this can restrict the airflow to the mattress and make the expansion period longer.

You should sleep on your mattress every night after you get it. Consistent sleeping will help your mattress get softer, more flexible, and become more comfortable over time.

Even if your mattress isn’t fully expanded on the first night you have it you can still sleep on it without disrupting the expansion process.

Some also recommend walking softly on the mattress or alternatively placing heavy books or boxes on it to distribute weight across it. This will help the mattress become flexible faster.

The room the mattress is in should stay warmer than you might like for sleeping. A warmer temperature will help soften the mattress even more.

But, you can always lower the temperature when you go to sleep!.

Conclusion

When you pull your Nectar mattress from its box it will likely feel MUCH firmer than you want. However, if you give it some time to air out and stay patient during the 30 day adjustment period, the end result will be a softer, more comfortable mattress.

Nectar mattresses will have the signature memory foam feeling to them, however this doesn’t mean they aren’t soft!

You can even consider adding a padded mattress topper if you’re looking for a little bit more cushion.

But, the big picture is that the Nectar mattress you sleep on the first day will be much softer, more flexible, and much more comfortable by day 30!
