How To Fix A Hole In Black Leggings
Fixing a hole in black leggings can be a bit difficult because the stretchy material doesn’t take to sewing and patches as easily as other materials.
Even so, you can still fix a hole in black leggings, but you have to figure out which method is best for you based on your skills and the hole itself.
Method 1: Hand Sew
The best way to fix a hole in your black leggings is to hand sew the hole. This method will result in the best appearance in the end.
The only downside is that it requires a little bit of sewing experience, but you don’t have to be an expert to get the job done correctly. This option is also the best for small holes.
Method 2: Patch It
We understand that not everyone feels comfortable hand sewing their clothes. If this sounds like you, you can try to patch up the hole instead.
Patching up the hole won’t have as attractive a finish, but it will get the job done and take next to no time.
Method 2 is also the superior option if the hole is super large. Hand sewing a large hole is very difficult and rarely looks good. Using the patch method will be both convenient and attractive for large holes.
Method 1: Hand Sew Hole In Black Leggings
Hand sewing the hole in your black leggings is the best way to fix the problem. This is a super easy job that is suitable for beginners.
You will only need three items, and a few minutes to properly sew up your black leggings. Here is how to fix a hole in black leggings with this hand sewing method.
What You’ll Need
- Hand sewing needle
- Sewing thread (black to match leggings)
- Utility scissors
Begin by taking your black thread and cutting it so that it is at least 12 inches long. Then, thread the needle by placing your recently cut thread through the needle’s eye. Pull that thread through the eye so that the thread is separated into two equal halves.
Tie the ends of the thread together.
Now, focus your attention on the leggings. Turn the leggings inside out. The purpose of this is so that the sewing will be on the inside of the leggings once the job is finished.
Smooth out the fabric surrounding the hole so you will get a clean finish.
Pinch the fabric together and start stitching on one side of the whole. Use very short stitches so that the thread doesn’t break as easily.
Continue doing this until the entire hole is covered by the stitches.
Once you are done, tie a knot to secure the job. Make sure that the knot is large enough that it doesn’t slip in between the stitches. Lastly, cut any remaining thread.
Method 2: Patch Hole In Black Leggings
Even though hand sewing your black leggings is the best method, you might not be comfortable with that.
If that’s the case, then we recommend you patch the hole in your black leggings with this method. This method is also ideal if the hole is large. Here’s what you will need to do.
What You’ll Need
- Sewing adhesive
- Fabric interfacing (black to match leggings)
- Tea towel
Begin by turning your leggings inside out and wrapping the leggings around a pillow. This pillow is meant to provide a stretched-out surface so that you could easily apply the patch.
Your pillow won’t actually be attached to the leggings when you’re done.
Lay as many sewing adhesive strips as needed to cover the hole entirely. Cut out a piece of fabric interfacing so that it is larger than the hole. Lay it on top of the adhesive strips.
Take your iron and gently iron around the edges. The heat will bond the fabric interfacing to the other fabric. Once you’ve covered the edges, place a tea towel over the top of the hole and iron the entire hole.
The tea towel will prevent the fabrics from being burnt while the heat bonds the fabrics entirely.
The last thing you need to do is cut off any remaining fabric, if there is any, and turn your leggings right side out.

If you need to fix a hole in black leggings, you can do so with one of the two methods above. If the hole is small and you are comfortable hand sewing, select Method 1.
The final result will be inconspicuous and attractive so that the hole is completely forgotten about.
If you are not comfortable sewing your leggings or the whole is very large, we recommend Method 2 instead.
Method 2 will allow you to cover a large area quickly without having to sew a thing. Just make sure the iron isn’t on so high that it burns the fabrics.
One last thing to think about is matching the thread and patch to your leggings. With black leggings, this is not difficult.
You can find black thread and patches with no problem. In the future, carefully match thread and patch to the leggings if they are a more unique color.
