Are you going on vacation, or on a business trip and need a new passport? Are you wondering what is one of the most convenient ways to get passport photos made and whether your local Walmart store can make these for you?

Walmart does print passport photos, and you have options. You can either upload your already-taken passport photos to the Walmart website and get them printed and delivered to your home. Or you can go to a Walmart in person with an in-store Photo Center and have your photos taken and printed there.

In this article, I describe the options available for getting your USA passport photos printed by Walmart. I also set out the costs you can expect to pay and explain the specific requirements that need to be met for your passport photos.

You can’t take chances with your photos – they need to meet specific standards or they will be rejected by the US State Department.

How Much Does Walmart Charge for Passport Photos?

If you’re using Walmart’s online passport printing services, this costs only $7.44 for two correctly sized passport photos for in-store pick-up.

You pay extra to have the photos delivered to your home address.

How Can I Get Passport Photos at a Walmart Store?

Walmart offers passport photo-taking and printing services at stores with a Photo Center.

You should call your local store and ask them if they offer passport photo services. You can find your nearest Walmart store and get the number to call from the Walmart website storefinder.

Most Walmart Supercenters have a Photo Center, so a conveniently located store should be relatively easy to find.

Once you’ve found a store on the Walmart website you can click on the ‘Details’ icon to find the phone number to call. If your local store does not provide passport photo services, ask if they know the nearest store that does, or use the storefinder to explore other stores in your vicinity.

Once you’ve found a convenient Walmart store that can help, here’s what to do:

  • Head over to the store and go to the Photo Center
  • Have your passport photo taken there by a Walmart Photo Center team member
  • Then choose to either wait and collect the printed photos, or arrange to have them delivered to your home address

Having your passport photos taken in-store is a risk-free option as the Walmart staff will have taken hundreds of passport pictures before and will know exactly how to meet all of the Department of State’s exacting requirements.

What if Your Local Walmart Doesn’t Have A Photo Center?

If your local Walmart does not have an instore Photo Centre, Walmart also offers an online Photo Center. You’ll need to have digital versions of your passport photos stored on your laptop or cellphone.

The Walmart online Photo Center offers a huge range of products, not just passport photos. You can create all sorts of prints, artworks, photo books, custom greetings cards, and gifts.

You’ll need to create a Walmart Photo account where you can upload photos and then order your custom-made products.

Here are the steps you need to follow to create passport photos using Walmart’s online Photo Center:

  • On the Walmart website home page type ‘photo’ in the search box
  • On the Walmart photo home page type in ‘passport’ in the search box
  • Click ‘Create Now’
  • Check that your photos meet all of the Department of State requirements
  • Click ‘Add Photos’
  • Choose the location where your photos are stored (e.g. ‘My Computer’)
  • Click ‘Upload Photos’, and find and choose your passport photo
  • Click ‘Add’
  • Drag and position the photo into the Walmart photo template
  • Make any necessary adjustments to the passport photo
  • Select ‘Add to Cart’ and complete the payment
  • Choose either to pick up the photo prints at a selected store, or arrange for a home delivery

What Are The State Department’s Requirements?

Your USA passport photo must meet these standards in order for it to be accepted by the US Department of State and included in your passport:

  • You must directly face the camera and show a full-face view
  • Both eyes must be open
  • Do not wear glasses unless required for medical reasons (a signed doctor’s note will be required with your passport application)
  • Do not wear a hat or head covering unless for religious, cultural, or medical reasons (a self-signed statement to that effect is required with your passport application for religious/cultural head coverings, and a signed doctor’s note for medical head coverings)
  • Do not wear headphones or wireless/Bluetooth devices
  • You need to show a neutral expression or a mild natural smile
  • Wear normal everyday clothes
  • The photo background must be white or off-white
  • The photo must have been taken within the last six months
  • The size of your head in the printed photo must be from 1 inch to 1 3/8 inches from the bottom of your chin to the top of your head
  • The printed photo is to be sized exactly 2 inches by 2 inches
  • The photo is to be printed in color on matte photo quality paper

Conclusion

To get passport photos printed by Walmart you have two options. You can either go to a store with a Photo Center or use Walmart’s online Photo Center. Both options allow in-store collection or home delivery.

Remember that the US Department of State has very exacting standards for the photos that have to be met. If your photos do not meet these standards your passport application will be rejected.

So, the safer bet is to find a Walmart with an in-store Photo Center and have your photos taken and printed by a Walmart staff member who is familiar with all of the requirements.
