Dish Network Receiver Replacement Policy (What’s Covered)

Dish Network Receiver Replacement Policy

Do you know what Dish Network’s replacement policy for receivers is?

DISH Network Corporation is an American TV and direct-broadcast, a satellite provider. Originally begun as a service to bring TV to rural America, Dish Network now has over 19 million customers and brings in revenues of over $17 billion.

As with most satellite and cable TV providers, Dish Network leases their receivers and equipment to their customers for a small monthly fee.

So, what is the Dish Network receiver replacement policy? Dish Network receivers are covered by a 1-year parts and labor warranty. If you need to replace a defective receiver, Dish Network offers two options for replacement: an advance exchange program and a post-receipt exchange program. You can use either of these programs to replace the receiver, whether or not it is under warranty. However, you may be charged a repair fee if it is out of warranty.

In this post, you’ll find out all you need to know about Dish Network’s receiver replacement options and additional warranty information.

Are Dish Network receivers covered by a warranty?

As mentioned earlier, Dish Network receivers and equipment are generally leased to customers for a small monthly fee.

Even though they are leased, they are still covered by a warranty. Dish Network offers a 1 year warranty against defects in materials and/or workmanship.

Under the terms of the warranty, you are entitled to a replacement receiver if your original receiver is defective.

What does Dish Network’s warranty cover?

If you are the original user of the receiver and find the receiver is defective, Dish will replace the receiver with no charge for labor.

Also, Dish will replace any parts determined to be defective with new or remanufactured parts at no cost to you.

Do I have to have a receipt to make a warranty claim?

According to Dish Network’s warranty, you must have the original Bill of Sale or other proof of purchase for any repair or replacement to be covered by warranty. You also must be the original owner of the equipment.

What are some exceptions to the warranty?

Dish Network’s warranty does not cover installation, instruction, set-up, signal reception issues, remote control batteries, cosmetic damage, damage caused by electrical surges, lightning damage, acts of nature, misuse, abuse, unauthorized repairs or service, improper maintenance, neglect, commercial or institutional use.

It also does not cover equipment sold “As Is” or “With All Faults”.

The warranty does not cover shipping and handling, installation or removal, or damage caused during shipping. The warranty only covers equipment bought and used in the U.S.

How do I replace my Dish Network receiver?

Dish Network offers two methods for replacing their receivers: Advance Exchange Program and Post-Receipt Exchange Program. We’ll go over both options.

Advance Exchange: As the name implies, with Advance Exchange, you get a new receiver first, then you are responsible for shipping the defective receiver back to Dish Network. Here’s how it works:

Once you request a replacement receiver, Dish will ship one out to you immediately. You should receive it within 3-5 business days.

Along with the receiver you will receive a prepaid shipping label and instructions on how to return your old, defective receiver. You have 10 days from receipt of the new receiver to return the old one.

The shipping charges will be billed to your account or credit card on file. If you don’t ship the defective receiver back to Dish within 10 days after you received the new equipment, Dish will charge you the market price of the equipment.

Once they receive the defective receiver after the 10 days, you will be refunded that charge, minus a small fee.

Post-Receipt Exchange: With this option, you send the defective receiver back to Dish at your cost. Once they receive it, you will be shipped the replacement.

What happens when Dish gets my defective receiver?

Regardless of which method of exchange you use above, once Dish Network has your defective receiver they will determine if it is covered by their 1-year parts and labor warranty.

  • If the defective receiver is covered by the warranty there won’t be any additional cost to you for the replacement.
  • If the defective receiver is not covered by the warranty but is repairable, you will be charged a standard repair fee. This charge will appear on your account or credit card.
  • If damage is found to the receiver that voids the warranty, you will be charged the market price of the receiver. This charge will appear on your account or credit card.

Will Dish Network replace my purchased receiver?

Yes, if the receiver is defective, as long as you are the original owner and have proof of purchase, you can replace the receiver regardless of whether it is leased or bought.

However, if Dish Network finds the receiver has been tampered with or altered, they will consider the warranty void and you will have to pay market price for the replacement receiver.
