Who Makes Kirkland Lactose-Free Milk (The Truth!)

Who Makes Kirkland Lactose-Free Milk

Are you lactose intolerant or at least someone who experiences stomach discomfort from Lactaid products? If so, you may have already tried the Kirkland lactose-free milk.

However, do you know that Kirkland isn’t the manufacturers of milk at all? Kirkland’s lactose-free milk, like most of their other products, are created by a third-party manufacturer.

Who makes Kirkland lactose-free milk? Kirkland’s Lactose-free milk products are produced on a dairy farm and milk plant in Colorado through the company Aurora Organic Dairy Corp. This is a USDA organic milk farm that is known for producing and distributing quality products to businesses all over the US.

Kirkland is a well-known signature brand sold in Costco stores. These products are known for being high-quality, low-cost products, often made by top brands.

In this article, we will discuss everything there is to know about Kirkland lactose-free milk.

Who Makes Kirkland Lactose Free Milk?

While we are all well aware that Costco does not make their own products, neither does their private label Kirkland.

Kirkland is a private label for the Costco store brand items. However, this company doesn’t produce its products either.

All of their signature products are actually manufactured through 3rd party brands, most of them are reputable and popular.

The reputable company that manufactures the Kirkland lactose-free milk is the Aurora Organic Dairy Corp.

Who is Aurora Organic Dairy Corp?

Aurora Organic Dairy Corp is located in Boulder, CO, and is the tops selling organic milk company in the US.

This dairy farm creates organic milk products that they send out to different marketers and businesses, to create their own quality milk brand.

When selling Aurora Organic Dairy products, other companies have the ability to sell delicious milk that is reputable and easy to locate.

The company prides itself on its excellent standards for animal welfare, sustainability, and responsibility to the planet, and its customers.

Aurora Organic Dairy Corp Recall

In August of 2021, Costco customers were alerted that the organic lactose-free milk sold in the California Bay area, had not met quality standards.

The recall stated that the milk was not dangerous to consume, but anyone who was not satisfied with their purchase could return it to their local Costco for a full refund.

This recall did not cause any illnesses or other complications with those who consumed it, and it only affected a single location.

Kirkland Lactose-Free Milk Quality

Kirkland’s lactose-free milk is USDA certified, contains no antibiotics, and is hormone-free. These are all of the things you will see in other quality milk brands.

Because the Kirkland lactose-free milk is USDA certified, it was never associated with pesticides, fertilizers, or any genetically modified ingredients.

This milk product is a good source of calcium and other natural vitamins and nutrients.

What Ingredients are Found in Kirkland Lactose-Free Milk?

Everyone should always be concerned about the ingredients included in the products they are consuming.

These ingredients should never be hard to find, nor should they be complicated to understand.

The ingredients found in Kirkland 2% Lactose-free milk include:

This milk contains less than 1% of lactase enzyme, vitamin A palmitate, vitamin D3.

  • Calcium 30%
  • Vitamin A 10%
  • Vitamin C 2%
  • Sodium 120mg
  • Cholesterol 5mg
  • Potassium 350

These ingredients and nutrition are very similar to that of many other lactose-free milk brands, big brands, and other store brands.

Is Kirkland Lactose-Free Milk Good

Kirkland lactose-free milk has no added sweeteners or other flavors. This milk tastes like many other milk brands and isn’t anything special nor is there anything wrong with it.

Unfortunately, there are many reviews from Lactaid sensitive customers that indicate the milk may not truly be 100% Lactaid free.

These customers suggest there is still a slight among of lactose in this product because they experience stomach issues after drinking them.

How Much Does Kirkland Lactose-Free Milk Cost?

When shopping at Costco, you will pay around $10 for three ½ gallon cartons of Kirkland’s lactose-free milk.

A little more than three bucks for a ½ galloon of lactose-free milk isn’t a bad deal at all.

This is actually one of the better prices we have found for lactose-free milk, even those created by the same manufacturer, in the same building, using the same cows.

This is how the store brand products typically work.

With brand-name, you are paying more for the label than the product. (not all of the time, but a lot of the time.)

Pros and Cons of Lactose-Free Milk

While we all know that lactose-free milk is good for those who have trouble digesting regular milk, it is also full of calcium, protein, vitamins, and minerals, just like cow’s milk.

However, there are some downsides to this milk as well.

Some lactose milk manufacturers may add artificial sugars to their products to give them a more appealing flavor. (This is not something Kirkland does).

Is Lactose-free The Same as Dairy-Free?

Not at all. Lactose-free milk is still a form of cow’s milk, meaning it still contains dairy. The difference is the lactose is removed.

Anyone who is dairy sensitive, shouldn’t drink lactose-free milk. Instead, those people may want to try almond milk or something similar.

Summing Things Up

Kirkland may not produce their own lactose-free milk, however, they are the owner of the brand and exclusively sold through the Costco stores.

This milk is a quality product that is safe for consumption, at a very affordable price, and tastes just as good as the alternatives.
