Who Makes Kirkland Furnace Filters? (Quality, Review + More)

Who Makes Kirkland Furnace Filters

Do you know who makes Kirkland furnace filters? Well, you are at the perfect place to find the answer to such a question.

Costco started their Kirkland Signature brand in 1995 and has since been a leader of private level success. However, one surprising thing about Kirkland products is that Costco doesn’t manufacture them.

If you’ve recently purchased a furnace filter from Costco and are curious who made it, we’re here to shed some light on this question.

Unfortunately, there is no real way to nail down who manufactures Kirkland furnace filters. In fact, there really isn’t much information out there to speculate with.

In this article, we will explain the mechanics of Costco’s Kirkland Signature brand and the quality of their furnace filters.

Who Makes Kirkland Products?

Now, this brings us to the burning question of who exactly makes Kirkland products. We know it isn’t Costco. Costco simply creates deals with other big name-brand companies and re-packages their products using the Kirkland Signature label.

Some examples of confirmed suppliers of Kirkland products include Starbucks, Ocean Spray, Bumble Bee, and many more. You may be wondering if Kirkland Signature products are simply duplicates of their name brand counterparts, but this isn’t the case.

Due to the popularity of Kirkland Signature, Costco has bargaining power to negotiate deals with big name brands.

This means they can ask Starbucks to create a coffee bean for them that is slightly different than what is available through Starbucks.

Often Kirkland products are deemed more affordable and higher quality than comparable name brands.

Do We Know Who Manufactures Kirkland Furnace Filters?

The one unfortunate thing about private label brands, Kirkland Signature being no exception, is that there is little transparency about who manufactures them. The only way we can find out who produces a product for Costco is if Costco themselves or the brand confirms it.

This isn’t the case for Costco’s furnace filters. Although, this could be because they are a relatively new addition compared to other Kirkland Signature products.

On Costco’s website the only information under the product details is that Kirkland Signature is owned by Costco Wholesale Corporation.

Given that furnace filters aren’t a hugely popular product, it is unlikely there will be a confirmation on who manufactures them. In fact, Costco doesn’t even state if these filters are manufactured in the U.S. or not.

Are Kirkland Furnace Filters Good Quality?

While we can’t answer who manufactures Kirkland furnace filters, we can discuss their quality.

The Kirkland Signature furnace filter is known as a 2200 high performance filter. This means the filter can capture and hold more airborne particles than comparable brands.

The filter has a MERV rating of 12. If you’re unfamiliar with MERV ratings, essentially this is a number from 1-16 that gives you an idea of how effective your filter is at removing undesirable particles from the air. The higher the number on the scale, the more effective the filter is.

The only thing important to keep in mind is to make sure that your furnace system is built to work with a 2200 high performance filter. If it isn’t then the Kirkland filter might put additional strain on your system and could potentially cause issues down the road.

I recommend this Furnace filter below: A furnace filter enhances the air quality inside your home by capturing particles like dust, dirt, and dander that would otherwise clog up your furnace.

Filtrete Allergen Defense, 2-Pack

A high-quality furnace filter can dramatically reduce dust, allergens, and other particles floating in the air, and the popular Filtrete Allergen Defense is a great choice.

How Did Kirkland Signature Begin?

When Costco first started experimenting with the idea of a private label they began with around 30 different private label names. This strategy is similar to many other big corporations, they will separate the name of their private label depending on what category of the item they are selling.

For example, if we look at Target’s private labels, they sell Good and Gather food, and Cat and Jack children’s clothing. Beyond this, they have a wide selection of goods sold under other private label names.

It was the founder of Costco, Jim Sinegal, who decided to create the all-inclusive Kirkland Signature brand in an attempt to stop using forgettable private label names and find one that stuck.

After some debating about what to call the Costco private label, Kirkland Signature was chosen in 1995 and has been around ever since.

Why Is Kirkland Signature Successful?

The secret behind the success of Kirkland Signature items is their consistency. They are one of the only retailers of their size to use only one brand for their private label. This means everything they produce needs to be a good quality product.

This means Kirkland Signature products need to live up to Costco’s reputation, good quality for a lower price. Costco’s private label is one of the many things that attract customers to purchase a membership.

So far it has been a wild success considering on average Kirkland Signature sales make up about a quarter of Costco’s total sales every year. Plus, Consumer Reports named Kirkland Signature as the sixth best private label in the United States.

Conclusion

Costco’s only private label Kirkland Signature is known for its high quality and low price! However, Costco is not the manufacturer of any Kirkland Signature items.

Costco contracts with other big name brands to create their unique line of products.

While this means a great deal for our wallets, if you’re someone who likes to know where your products come from, Kirkland Signature may not be the best choice.

Although there are some confirmed suppliers of Kirkland items, many of them have not been revealed.

Unfortunately, this is the case with the Kirkland furnace filters. While they are high quality filters, there is no way to definitely say who makes them or where they are manufactured.
