Sam’s Club often feels like a one-stop-shop where you can get anything that you need, but there are some exceptions. For example, can you find gas for a grill at Sam’s Club?

Read ahead in this article to find out all you need to know when it comes to gas grills at Sam’s Club, and the fuel you need to power them.

What Is Sam’s Club?

Before we take a look at their gas options for grills, let’s investigate Sam’s Club as a company, so that we know what they do and what they’re all about.

Sam’s Club (also called Sam’s West, Inc.) is a chain of membership-only retail warehouse clubs that are operated by Walmart. As of 2019, the company ranks just behind its main competitor, Costco, as the second-largest wholesale club in the world, in terms of sales.

There are around 600 individual Sam’s Club locations in the United States, Mexico, Brazil, and China, though there is a plan to close around 63 of these warehouses, potentially in order to convert them to e-commerce fulfillment centers.

How Is Sam’s Club Different from Walmart?

Although they are both operated as part of the same company, Sam’s Club stores are separate from Walmart locations, and they function in a different way too.

In order to buy products from a Sam’s Club warehouse, you need to pay a membership fee, but there are some big benefits to doing so.

Sam’s Club sells items in bulk, often with significantly lower prices. This means that you can get a lot for your money.

You can get big savings on almost all product types at Sam’s Club, and their offers are usually a lot more generous as well.

Can You Buy Gas for Grills at Sam’s Club?

One of the difficulties with finding what you need at Sam’s Club is that the stock does vary depending on your location.

Most Sam’s Club warehouses do stock propane gas and other grill fuel sources, but not all of them will at all times. It’s worth checking at your nearest location, which you can find using the locator on their website.

You can expect to find most different kinds of fuel at Sam’s Club, though, including:

  • Propane Gas
  • Liquid Propane
  • Charcoal Briquettes
  • BBQ pellets
  • Lighter Fluid
  • Fire Starters

The most common form of gas that you’ll need for a grill is propane, and you can usually get propane tanks for between $40 and $80 at Sam’s Club, depending on the size that you choose.

There are also often smaller camping options for sale as well.

Can You Buy Gas for Grills Online from Sam’s Club?

Although you are pretty likely to find most kinds of gas at a physical Sam’s Club location, you will rarely find propane or other fuel on their website.

Flammable or otherwise hazardous products can’t be shipped, so they are not usually listed for sale online.

That doesn’t mean, though, that you won’t find them in-store, and you may be able to buy fuel for your grill online and pick it up from a warehouse near you.

It does depend a lot on where you are in the country, and what is listed as being in stock on any given day.

Can You Buy Gas at a Sam’s Club Fuel Center?

If you’re looking for gas from Sam’s Club, one of their Fuel Centers might be the first place you would want to check.

Not every warehouse actually has a Fuel Center though, so you’ll need to check your nearest location to see if it’s available. In fact, quite a few of them are actually attached to a Walmart Store rather than a warehouse.

You still need to be a Sam’s Club member to buy fuel at their Fuel Centers but the prices do tend to be pretty reasonable.

The cost of fuel will obviously change depending on the day and your location, but it’s certainly a good place to try if you are already a member.

Can You Exchange or Refill Propane Tanks at Sam’s Club?

When you’re looking to fuel up your grill, you don’t want to be buying a new tank every time. So, can you refill or exchange propane tanks at Sam’s Club?

Fortunately, you can! At most Sam’s Club stores where you can buy a new propane tank, you can also exchange an empty tank for a small fee.

The price does vary, but it is rarely more than twenty dollars to make an exchange.

In fact, many Sam’s Club Fuel Centers even have a 24/7 self-serve propane exchange station, which you can pay for with a credit card. These stations are usually located just outside, so they’re very easy to find.

The self-serve stations at Sam’s Club are run by AmeriGas and it generally costs around $14-$18 to exchange a 20-pound tank.

As exchanging or refilling services go, this is one of the easiest and most convenient options that you are going to find!

Do Grills at Sam’s Club Come with Fuel?

If you’re looking to shop for a grill at Sam’s Club, you will probably want to know whether or not you’re going to need to buy any extras to get it working.

Most of the grills that Sam’s Club sells do not come with a propane tank, although they are ready for one to be installed.

This does mean that you will often need to buy a separate fuel tank before you can operate your grill. Fortunately, you can generally buy one at the same time as you pick up your grill – and from the same store.

You might be hoping to convert your grill from using propane to natural gas or the other way around, and Sam’s Club does sell a conversion kit that can make that happen.

It is important, though, that you check the specifications of your grill beforehand as many cannot be converted without serious alterations that could void your warranty.

What Are the Most Popular Grills at Sam’s Club?

There are quite a few different grills on the shelves at most Sam’s Club locations, though the selection does vary from store to store.

Most of them are made by “Member’s Mark”, which are exclusively packaged for Sam’s Club. Some of their most popular grills include:

  • Member’s Mark 4-Burner Outdoor Gas Griddle
  • Member’s Mark Pro-Series 5-Burner Gas Griddle
  • Member’s Mark Pro Series Gas Assist Charcoal Grill
  • Member’s Mark 2-Burner Propane Gas Grill

So, can you find gas for a grill at Sam’s Club? You can buy most of the different types of fuel that you might use for your grill at Sam’s Club stores, as well as the grill itself, although not every location will have the same stock.

Propane tanks, the most common fuel source you will need, are usually available at different Sam’s Club warehouses.

You will also usually find 24/7 self-serve exchange stations for your used or empty propane tanks, and they’re a pretty decent price too!
