Nordstrom is the fashionista’s superstore. From clearance and last chance items to the latest styles of the season, you’re sure to find a good deal. But sometimes, what we find on the rack ends up not being what we thought it was. Therefore, a return is in order.
So, how many days do you have to return an item to Nordstrom under their return policy? According to Nordstrom return policy, for the department store, there is no limit on time but for boutique purchases, you have 45 days.
The quirky thing about this is that you can return any item through Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack or their website. The choice is ultimately yours.
However, each store has slight variations in their return policies of which customers should be aware.

Nordstrom Returns & Exchanges Policy
Nordstrom has a liberal return policy with limitless returns, in that you can take as long as you need. Of course, it’s always a good idea to have your receipt or other proof of purchase.
This can be an actual sales receipt from the store, your order details or a barcode from their app in your account.
No Receipt
However, you don’t have to have a receipt. But you will have to present your ID in order to initiate a return. They will honor you a refund in the form of a gift card for the amount the item currently costs. You cannot cash or exchange this card, it’s a form of in-store credit.

Right of Refusal
Also keep in mind that although Nordstrom will accept almost all returns they receive, there are times where they do refuse to take the item.
Therefore, ensure what you’re returning is in a reasonable condition. In-store returns are 100% free and there are no restocking fees.
Curbside Returns
Nordstrom does offer curbside returns where you can place or mail your unwanted items in a drop box. However, you cannot return Nordstrom Rack items, jewelry, opened designer apparel or opened baby gear this way.
No Exchanges
Exchanges are not part of the deal at Nordstrom. If you want to make an exchange, you’ll have to initiate a refund for the item(s) you don’t want and then make a new purchase.

What Is the Return Policy for Nordstrom Rack?
Nordstrom Rack will allow returns up until 45 days after purchase. If you make a return beyond that time frame, you will only receive 50% of the total value of the items returned.
This is a late charge only under the condition that they actually accept the return.
Certain Exceptions
As long as you make your return within the specified 45-day limit, then you can return almost anything you purchased from Nordstrom Rack or Nordstrom.
Oftentimes, if they don’t accept the return it’s for Final Sale items, such as beauty products. These will come marked with such a label.
Everything else should have its original packaging. This includes tags, bags, hangers cases, shoeboxes, and gift boxes. The items should also be visibly untouched, not worn, unaltered, or not damaged.
Nordstrom Rack doesn’t allow any kind of exchanges at this time. You will have to make a return and then purchase the new item you want.
What Is the Return Policy for Online Orders?
Whether you make a purchase online through Nordstrom or Nordstrom rack, returns are not free when sent by mail. You will have to pay the return shipping costs, which will come out of your refund.
Because you can return interchangeably between Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack, all returns made in the store are completely free. Curbside drop-off is not available for all items purchased through Nordstrom Rack.
How to Initiate a Return
To initiate a return, you must go to your order details through your account or use their guest return link if you made a purchase anonymously. For the latter, you must have your order number to look up the items included.
Either way, once your order appears, you click the button that says, “start a return.” You’ll see this next to the item you no longer want.
You’re then taken to a page where you can select additional items you want to add to the transaction. You will not be able to select any items marked “Final Sale.”
Then you select your method of how you’d like to make the return: at the store, mail-in curbside (if available), and mail in.
Both curbside and mail-in options will have a fee for the return postage. For most garments and clothing, it’ll cost around $9.95.
Mailing In Your Return
If you opt for the mail-in route, you fill in the form with your details. Nordstrom will send you everything you need to make the return.
Either you can print out your return shipping labels or take your special QR code to the post office where they will print one out for you.
Conclusion
Nordstrom’s return policy is quite liberal. Purchases from the department store have no time limit for a return.
However, if you bought your items from Nordstrom Rack, then you have 45 days to complete your return. Anything outside of this time means you’ll only receive ½ of what the item is worth.
