Lidl is a German-based, international discount grocery chain. Lidl has a large European presence and began expanding to the U.S. in 2017. Currently, there are approximately 160 stores along the East Coast and Mid-Atlantic states of the U.S.

Lidl is similar to Aldi, another German discount store, in its no-frills, cost-saving approach.

So, does Lidl accept returns? And can you return something without a receipt? Yes, you can return items bought at Lidl. Lidl’s return policy gives you 90 days to make a return for most products. They do require a receipt in order to get a refund, however, you can still make a return without a receipt. Instead of a refund, you will get store credit for the lowest advertised price of the item.

Do I need the receipt to return an item bought at Lidl?

You do not need the receipt to return an item from Lidl, however, you will not be refunded money to your original form of payment without one.

Instead, you will receive store credit for the lowest advertised price of the item. 

What is the Lidl Love It Guarantee?

Lidl has a program called the “Lidl Love It Guarantee”. With the Lidl Love It Guarantee, shoppers can return any Lidl branded product they’re not satisfied with and buy another in its place.

This Guarantee only applies to Lidl branded items, and you have 90 days from the original purchase to take advantage of it. You must have the original receipt to use this program.  

A catch with using the Lidl Love It Guarantee is that you can only use the refund for one Lidl-branded product per order. So, if you have multiple eligible items in an order, you can only get a refund and replacement for one of them.

Stores do have discretion applying this policy, so you can always contact your nearest Lidl with questions or concerns.

What is the return policy at Lidl?

Lidl stores sell both their own, in-house, Lidl branded products as well as nationally branded products and non-food items. Their return policy is similar for both types of products:

Lidl Brand Products: MostLidl brand products are eligible for the “Lidl Love It Guarantee”. You have 90 days to return most Lidl branded products from the original date of purchase.

The items must be returned in their original packaging with a receipt to be eligible for a refund. Refunds will be made to the original form of payment. 

National Brand Products and Non-Food Items: You have 90 days to return most nationally branded products and non-food items from the original date of purchase.

The items must be returned in their original packaging with a receipt to be eligible for a refund. Refunds will be made to the original form of payment. 

Which are some exceptions to Lidl’s return policy?

There are a few exceptions to the return policy that Lidl offers. These items are considered final sale, although you can always contact your local store if you have questions. 

Lidl Love It Guarantee Exceptions: Gift cards, alcohol, Lidl Surprise items, and any items that would be returned for reasons other than customer preference or product quality. 

National Brand Products and Non-Food Items Exceptions: Gift cards, alcohol, and other exclusions particular to an individual store might apply. Check your local store for details.

How do I return an item purchased at Lidl? 

Lidl sells products through its brick-and-mortar stores, although in some markets Lidl offers home delivery of groceries through the Shipt app.

For the most straightforward and quickest return process, it is easiest to make returns by going in person to your local Lidl store. 

To return an item in person:

Gather the following:

  • The item you want to return, in its original packaging.
  • Your receipt (required if you want a refund, otherwise you will receive store credit only).

If you don’t have a receipt, you may want to bring in a valid photo I.D. and the form of payment you used to originally make the purchase.

The return policy doesn’t specify you do so, however it may make the process easier.

Bring these items to any Lidl store and go to the customer service counter or register area. A staff member there will assist you with making your return. 

To return a delivered item through Shipt:

Lidl’s website does not offer much information regarding accepting returns when delivered to your home via Shipt. Assuming Lidl’s standard return policy is in place, Shipt offers a 7-day return window on items that are damaged or incorrect in the delivered order.

If you’d like to return a Lidl product that was delivered through Shipt, follow these steps:

  • Log in to your Shipt account using the app. 
  • Navigate to the order that contains the item you want to return.
  • Click on the “Report Issue” button next to the item you want to return and select the issue reason from the drop-down menu.  
  • When submitted, this will automatically notify the support team at Shipt. They will respond to your issue via email within 24-48 hours and provide the next steps.
  • The issue must be reported within 7 days of receiving the order.
