HomeSense Holiday Return Policy (All You Need To Know)

Homesense Holiday Return Policy

Do you know what HomeSense Christmas, or holiday return policy is? Well, you are at the perfect place to find the answer to such a question.

One of the unexpected results of the pandemic years is that holiday shopping has shifted earlier in the year, with many shoppers starting early in the fall rather than waiting for Black Friday deals or even the first cold weather. But what happens if you buy your gifts early and then your recipients can’t return them?

In prior years, HomeSense has offered an extended holiday return period on purchases made between October 10th and December 25th, allowing these items to be returned through January 25th of the following year.

HomeSense claims that it will be offering a holiday return policy this year as well, but it hasn’t confirmed what the dates will be for the 2022-2022 holiday shopping season.

Read on for everything you need to know about doing your holiday shopping at HomeSense.

What Is HomeSense and What Do They Sell?

Have you heard of T.J. Maxx, but not HomeSense? HomeSense is part of a family of companies that includes T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods, and Sierra.

In this family of stores, HomeSense focuses on home styling and decor including furniture, lighting, rugs, bedding, art, entertaining, and home accessories. T.J. Maxx and Marshalls also offer home goods in-store, but HomeSense stores focus only on home rather than function as department stores.

Like T.J. Maxx, HomeSense is an off-price retailer that offers a changing inventory of deeply-discounted merchandise from brand names in home fashion. Most inventory is offered at 20-60% off full-price.

HomeSense stores are brick-and-mortar stores only, without an online presence at this time, though the company website says that online shopping may be available in the future.

What Is HomeSense’s Regular Return Policy?

Items returned in original condition (including tags, if applicable), returned with a receipt will be fully refunded or exchanged if returned within 30 days of purchase. Merchandise must be in sellable condition.

Returns made without a receipt will be eligible for a merchandise credit (you will need to show a photo ID) and may be denied at the discretion of the store.

If you are outside the 30-day return window, you may still be able to make a return for store credit if your return would otherwise qualify. This is a departure from other retailers’ strict enforcement of return windows.

Why Have a Holiday Return Policy?

You may be so relieved to have your holiday shopping done before Thanksgiving so you can enjoy the holiday season with friends and family and not worry about your gifting.

But many early shoppers have found that if their recipients don’t like those gifts come the holidays, they may be out of luck when trying to return them.

Most retailers offer a regular return window of around 30 days, which means if you buy your gifts in October but don’t give them until December, they cannot be returned.

Since people are shopping earlier than ever–by some estimates a third of holiday shopping is actually done before Black Friday even starts–it makes sense to offer an extended return policy. .

What is the HomeSense Holiday Return Policy?

HomeSense has not published its holiday return policy for this upcoming year, though for last year it was the following:

Purchases made between October 10, 2021 and December 25, 2021 could be returned through January 25, 2022.

Anything purchased after Christmas would be subject to the regular 30-day period.

In other words, if you purchased merchandise in mid-October, this merchandise would have a return period of over 100 days!

As with all holiday return policies, the extended policy doesn’t change what is eligible for a return, it just extends the window for eligible purchases.

Does the HomeSense Holiday Return Policy Apply to Everything in HomeSense Stores?

Yes. If your merchandise is eligible for return within the standard 30-day window, that merchandise will also be eligible for the extended holiday return period.

All other terms about receipts and the condition of the merchandise will still apply.

Will There Be a HomeSense Holiday Return Policy This Year?

According to HomeSense customer service, they will be offering a holiday return policy this year as they have in prior years, though the company hasn’t confirmed what the dates will be.

Sometimes the dates are pushed up to allow even more shopping time, though it isn’t clear whether the dates will change this year.

According to the company it will announce the dates just before the holiday shopping window starts–around mid-October.

You can find updated information on the HomeSense web site under FAQ–Returns, or give the company a call at 855-660-HOME.

Why Not Offer a Holiday Return Policy?

HomeSense offers a great deal of holiday decor and seasonal home-styling merchandise, so if they allow returns through January they may be getting back products that are no longer seasonal and cannot be resold.

Do Other Companies Offer Holiday Return Policies?

In prior years, a wide variety of companies have offered holiday return policies, including home stores such as Kohl’s, Target, Walmart, West Elm, Pottery Barn, Amazon, and William-Sonoma.

Most of the policies are fairly similar, offering an extended return window through January for purchases made October-December of the prior year.

What Is the HomeSense Gift Return Policy?

So what do you do with a HomeSense gift you got over the holidays? If you have a gift receipt, you will be eligible to receive merchandise credit for the amount of the purchase.

If you don’t have a gift receipt, you can still return the item and will receive credit at the discretion of HomeSense. It will help to have any original packaging and keep any tags on.

If you do not have a receipt, you will have to produce a photo I.D. and the credit may only be used by the person making the return.

How Do I Make a HomeSense Return?

Since HomeSense is not an online or by-mail retailer, returns must be made in-store. All HomeSense returns must be made back to HomeSense stores or to HomeGoods stores, which are sister stores of HomeSense.

Other Tips for Returning Products to HomeSense

HomeSense offers the option of email receipts at select locations. These receipts may be used for returns just like regular receipts, subject to the same terms.

When you return items to the store, make sure you get a receipt for your return so you can check it against your credit card statement if that is how you purchased the merchandise.

For returns, you will receive an email receipt of the return and a store receipt.

HomeSense Christmas Return Policy FAQ

Can you return HomeSense to T.J. Maxx or Marshalls?

No–but you can return HomeSense items to HomeGoods and vice versa.

Does HomeSense accept returns without a receipt?

Yes, but only for merchandise credit. Items must be unused. You will need to produce a photo I.D. to make a return.

All retailers are subject to fraudulent returns, so returns without a receipt are at their discretion and a merchandise credit will only be issued to the person making the return.

Can I return something from Marshalls to T.J. Maxx?

No–all merchandise purchased at Marshalls stores must be returned to Marshalls stores only, not T.J. Maxx or any other sister store.

Conclusion

The company has confirmed that it will continue to offer a HomeSense Christmas return policy, though it hasn’t disclosed what the dates will be, or whether shoppers will have an extended period compared to last year.

The company intends to announce the new policy around the time it will go into effect–which will most likely be sometime in October.

If you are heading out to HomeSense in the fall to get your shopping done, make sure you confirm ahead of time what the holiday return policy is so your recipients aren’t left holding gifts they don’t want when they could have something even better.
