Does Schwan’s Accept EBT Online? (All You Need to Know)

Does Schwan's Accept EBT Online

Are you looking to use your EBT food card on an order from the Schwan’s truck? There are some conditions, but we have the scoop!

Schwan’s does accept EBT. Order online, then swipe your EBT card upon delivery of your order. Delivery is not covered by the EBT card, but if you order more than $50 worth of food, then the shipping is usually free. Be sure to be present during delivery or they will charge your credit card.

The following article answers all that you need to know about ordering Schwan’s through EBT, including shipping costs and monthly fees.

What can I buy from Schwan’s using my EBT card?

You can buy the same food products that you are able to purchase using your EBT elsewhere. Anything fresh, packaged, or frozen, if it is edible, will be able to be purchased with your food card.

  • Fruit
  • Vegetables
  • Meat
  • Fish
  • Dairy products
  • Frozen food products
  • Spices and condiments
  • Desserts
  • Coffee
  • Non-alcoholic drinks

What can’t I buy from Schwan’s using my EBT card?

The same items that cannot be purchased at other retail stores also cannot be purchased through Schwan’s.

  • Alcohol
  • Tobacco and cigarettes
  • Paper products
  • Hot food

How much is the delivery charge?

There is a delivery fee associated with placing an order because the drivers bring it right to your doorstep.

Your EBT food card will not cover that fee. Luckily, the shipping and delivery fees get waived for orders over $49.99.

For those orders that are less than that, a small delivery fee is applied and charged to the credit card they have on file.

Why is Schwan’s asking for a credit card when I will be using my EBT?

Schwan’s has you enter a credit or debit card number to hold your order when you place it, but they do not charge the card until delivery.

When delivered, you will give them your EBT card to swipe. Please note that if you are not available for delivery, then Schwan’s will charge the card they have on file.

It is best to let the sales representative known that you want to use your EBT card before you make the order.

Do I have to be available when the delivery is made?

If you are trying to use your EBT card to pay for the order, then you must be home to accept the order. This is because they swipe the EBT card on the spot at delivery.

If you are not available, they will attempt to charge the card they have on file, and then leave the order if the charge goes through. If your EBT card has other authorized users, then they can also swipe the EBT for your order.

Will I have to show ID to use my EBT card with Schwan’s?

During the first transaction using your EBT card, the Schwan’s sales representative may ask you to show your identification proving you are the owner or authorized user of your EBT card.

This is a standard practice done with all new customers to protect their company from any entanglement with EBT fraud.

Can I use my EBT with all of Schwan’s delivery options?

No, you can only use your EBT for “Truck-to-door” delivery services. They also have a mail order delivery option that does not work with EBT.

This is partly because Schwan’s will charge your EBT card when they deliver your order. They do not charge any card before it is delivered unless ordered for delivery through the mail.

Is there a monthly fee?

No, Schwan’s does hot have any monthly fees. They also do not do reoccurring orders. Instead, you only pay for the exact order that you place and only when you place it.

So, there is no need to worry about getting caught up in monthly subscriptions.

Is Schwan’s food more expensive?

Sometimes. Many items are more expensive when you buy them from Schwan’s compared to a big box store, but the products are quality, convenient, and come straight to your door.

If you consider the price of gas, have transportation issues, or don’t have a lot of time, then the slightly more expensive food you’ll find on the Schwan’s truck is still very much worth it.

Do I tip the drivers?

No, Schwan’s drivers are specifically not looking to be tipped.

Their company’s official policy is that they are to not accept monetary tips. Instead, their sales representatives, or delivery drivers, are paid on commission of every order and delivery.

Does Schwan’s deliver everywhere?

The company has a very wide distribution area, but they don’t get out into the rural areas often.

If you request a delivery by contacting your local Schwan’s sales representative, then you might be able to set up service in a previously unrepresented area.

Conclusion

You can use your EBT to pay for a Schwan’s order, but there are a few stipulations. You must enter a credit card number that they won’t charge unless you are not available to swipe your EBT at delivery.

EBT will only be accepted through their “truck-to-door” services, and EBT card do not delivery fees. Fortunately, if you order more than $50 worth of food, your delivery charges are usually waived.

Schwan’s is a great place to use your EBT because they offer free delivery for qualifying orders, and convenient online ordering, with no monthly subscription fees.
