Does IKEA Sell Twin XL Mattresses? (All You Need To Know)

Does IKEA Sell Twin XL Mattresses

Do you know if IKEA sells Twin XL mattresses? Well, you are at the perfect place to find the answer to such a question.

Most mattress retailers carry a large selection of mattress sizes from twin to california king! One niche bed that you find in dorm rooms across America is a twin XL bed. If you’re in the market for a twin XL mattress and want to know if IKEA includes these in their mattress selection you’ve come to the right place.

Unfortunately, IKEA does not sell twin XL mattresses. IKEA carries twin, full, queen, and king bed sizes. They also carry some smaller children’s mattresses and crib mattresses, but twin XL is not included in their wheelhouse.

In this article, we will discuss the difference between a twin and twin XL bed, as well as the different bedding options available at IKEA.

What Is The Difference Between A Twin And A Twin XL Mattress?

If you haven’t heard of a twin XL before and are trying to figure out if a regular twin bed will suffice with a twin XL bed frame, we’re here to shed some light on this conundrum.

Although twins and twin xl beds have the same width of 38”, they do differ in their length.

A regular twin bed is 75” long, whereas a twin XL is 80” long. If you’re familiar with other mattress lengths you might notice that a full-sized bed is also 75” and a queen-sized bed is 80”.

Twin XLs are best when you need a compact bed for a teenager or adult, which is why they are the bed of choice for many dorm rooms.

They are generally more expensive than a regular twin, and bedding accessories can be a little more difficult to find, but they are still a great choice depending on your circumstance.

What Bed Sizes Does IKEA Carry?

IKEA doesn’t carry a twin XL mattress and actually has a fairly limited selection compared to other mattress retailers.

But, we should remember that IKEA specializes in furniture more than mattresses, so they have many more options for bed frames and bedroom sets, less so in mattresses.

They carry twin, ful, queen, and king mattresses. They also carry kids beds to fit in their junior bed stands. Their junior beds measure in at 63” long and 27 1/2″ wide, which is much smaller than a twin XL. They also have crib beds, which are obviously significantly smaller than the twin XL as well.

IKEA has other mattresses made to fit their sleeper sofas, foldable mattresses, and mattress toppers, but they don’t carry any mattresses in a twin XL size

What Are The Pros And Cons Of Twin Mattresses?

If you’re curious on whether it is really necessary for IKEA to carry a more specialized mattress size and want to understand the pros and cons of each type, we can provide a short list to help break this down.

IKEA carrying twins is no surprise as they are a popular mattress choice for kids and teenages. They are compact and great for small spaces. Twin mattresses are also some of the cheapest on the market.

IKEA’s cheapest foam twin mattress sells for only $79! It is also really easy to find bed frames, sheets, mattress toppers, and other bedding accessories to accompany twin mattresses.

The downside to twin beds is that they are pretty narrow and not really ideal for anyone over 6 feet tall.

What Are The Pros And Cons Of Twin XL Mattresses?

As for twin XL beds, some of the benefits mirror those of regular twin beds. They are affordable, space savers, and great for growing kids.

However, a twin XL will also fit your older teen into their young adult years, which makes them a better choice for longevity reasons in your kid’s room.

The only real downside to a twin XL besides their narrow width, is that they are much less common and it can be difficult or more expensive to buy bedding accessories.

Considering IKEA doesn’t sell any bed sizes larger than a king; it makes sense that they don’t carry the twin XL.

Will IKEA Ever Sell A Twin XL Mattress?

Currently, IKEA has not announced any plans to start carrying twin xl mattresses. The only item they sell in the twin xl size is their VÅRVIAL sheet set.

Although IKEA is in a great place to expand their mattress selections this doesn’t yet appear to be a huge priority for them.

They don’t carry a wide selection of mattresses, staying mostly aligned with firm and medium firm varieties.

Their mattresses are also not generally constructed well enough to last as long as other mattress brands.

IKEA has cheap options, but they break down and lose support quicker than others. All of this leads us to believe that mattresses are not IKEA’s top priority, and they likely won’t expand into twin XLs or california kings anytime soon.

Conclusion

While IKEA is a one-stop shop for many of us when it comes to furniture, they don’t have many options for your twin XL needs.

If a twin XL is imperative due to an impending move to a college dorm room, you’ll have to shop somewhere else.

But, if a twin will suffice or you can upgrade to a queen, IKEA has those bases covered.

IKEA is sticking to the basics of mattress varieties, and we don’t envision this changing anytime soon!
