Best Buy Phone Replacement Policy (Geek Squad Cell Phone Protection)

Best Buy Phone Replacement Policy

Have you ever asked yourself or your friend what Best Buy Phone Replacement Policy is? Well, you are at the perfect place to find the answer to such a question.

If you purchase a Product Replacement Plan from Best Buy, their replacement policy states that a broken or damaged phone will be replaced in the event that it cannot be repaired. The Product Replacement Plan is part of the Geek Squad Protection plans, which offer an enhanced warranty for your product.

In this article, we look in more detail at everything you need to know about Best Buy’s phone replacement policy.

What is Best Buy’s phone replacement policy?

Under Best Buy’s Product Replacement Plan, any eligible phone which is damaged beyond repair is able to be replaced.

In some instances, repairing the device is not possible due to a lack of materials; in these cases, a replacement would be offered instead to anyone eligible under the Replacement Plan.

In order to receive a replacement for a damaged or broken phone, the best thing you can do is purchase a Product Replacement Plan.

The Plan is one of the protection plans offered under Best Buy’s Geek Squad Protection, an optional, supplementary form of warranty that adds an extra layer of protection to your product.

The Product Replacement Plan covers your product from the date of purchase or the date you receive your product, and coverage begins immediately from that point.

From this date, your plan will cover your product for either one year, two years, or four years, depending on the Plan you opt for.

How do you get Best Buy’s Product Replacement Plan?

You can get the Plan when you purchase the device. However, you are also able to purchase it at a later date. Any Geek Squad Protection plan, including the Product Replacement Plan, is available to add on to your device within 60 days from the date of purchase.

It will then run alongside the manufacturer’s warranty to provide extra protection.

When you purchase the Plan, you have different options on how long the plan will last. You can choose from two years, three years, or four years of added coverage for your device.

It’s worth noting that the amount you pay will also vary depending on which length of plan you opt for.

What is covered with Best Buy’s Product Replacement Plan?

The Plan is intended as an extension of Best Buy’s manufacturer’s warranty, which offers a slightly more basic variety of protection.

This means the Plan does not cover things which are already protected, and therefore able to be rectified, under the manufacturer’s warranty. Instead, it adds protection in areas which are not provided for.

This extra coverage is one of the major benefits of the Product Replacement Plan, as it ensures protection for your device in more areas.

Let’s look at some of the areas covered by the Plan, which might benefit anyone wanting to protect a phone:

  • The plan offers a one-time battery replacement if your phone’s battery breaks. If you pay annually, this is a one-time offer. For monthly payments, you can claim a new replacement every 36 months,
  • Damage occurring due to general wear and tear,
  • Problems arising from internal overheating, dust, or condensation,
  • Defective material or workmanship,
  • Damage due to a power surge, which includes power surges caused by lightning.

What does it not cover?

We have seen that the Plan offers more coverage than the manufacturer warranty. However, like any other form of warranty, the Plan does not cover every type of damage that could occur to a phone.

Let’s look at some of the more common types of issues that you might expect to experience with a phone but will not be covered under the Plan:

  • Any cosmetic damage which does not affect the functionality of the device (for example, scratches or damage to the casing),
  • Misuse, neglect, or abuse, whether accidental or intentional,
  • Theft and loss of the device,
  • Faults occurring from the interference of anyone other than a service provider authorized by Best Buy,
  • Damage as a result of Acts of God like severe weather and extreme temperatures.

How do I make a claim?

You can make a claim on your Plan by contacting the Geek Squad, either by going online to the website, going in store and speaking to a staff member, or calling the Geek Squad directly.

The help you receive through these channels is likely to differ depending on who you are able to speak to, but they should be able to identify your next step.

Are there any other fees included?

A service fee is required to be paid for each claim you make on your mobile phone.

The exact amount will depend on the work required but typically falls somewhere between $4.99 and $200.

You should be told well ahead of time what your service fee will be and when it needs to be paid by.

Can I get at-home service?

The possibility of at-home service depends on the product you need replacing or repairing. Usually, at-home service is provided for larger products such as appliances, large TV, and fitness equipment.

At-home service is unlikely to be available for smaller devices like phones. Instead, your repair or replacement will likely happen in store.

Final Thoughts

Under Best Buy’s Product Replacement Plan, you can receive a replacement for a broken or damaged phone if it is unable to be repaired.

The Plan is offered by Best Buy’s Geek Squad Protection range of extended warranties, which offer an optional supplement to protect areas which are not covered under the manufacturer’s warranty.
