Have you ever asked yourself or your friend if Hebrew National Hot Dogs are gluten free? Well, you are at the perfect place to find the answer to such a question.

If you are a big fan of hot dogs, you have probably wondered which brands are safe to eat if you are gluten free.

So, are Hebrew National hot dogs gluten free? Yes, Hebrew National Hot Dogs are gluten free. Not only are these franks free of any gluten ingredients, making them totally safe for celiac and gluten-sensitive consumers, they are also kosher and made without any artificial colorings, flavorings, filler ingredients, or by products. With that being said, they are not certified gluten free, so there is still a small potential for cross contamination.

The rest of this article will discuss everything you need to know about Hebrew National’s gluten free, kosher hot dogs.

Are Hebrew National hot dogs gluten free?

The answer to this question is a resounding YES. Hebrew National hot dogs contain absolutely no gluten ingredients, so if you suffer from celiac disease or a gluten sensitivity issue, you do not need to worry about these hot dogs.

Hebrew National’s parent company, ConAgra foods, has a strict policy that they must disclose any ingredients with gluten on the label of their products.

Their products are not technically labeled as “gluten free,” but if there are any gluten ingredients involved, this will be prominently displayed on the label of the product.

How long have Hebrew National hot dogs been gluten free?

Hebrew National hot dogs have always been gluten free! In fact, back in 1984, they used to be the supplier for Costco’s famous $1.50 hot dog combo.

They remained the supplier for Costco all the way until 2009, and were the reason that Costco was able to boast their famous gluten free franks the whole time.

What is in Hebrew National hot dogs?

Hebrew National hot dogs are fairly healthy, containing no added colorings or flavorings and no filler ingredients.

The list of ingredients is fairly short and simple! Check out this list below for every ingredient included in Hebrew National’s kosher beef franks:

  • Kosher Beef
  • Water
  • Garlic Powder
  • Paprika
  • Salt
  • Flavoring
  • Spice
  • Hydrolyzed Soy Protein
  • Sodium Nitrate
  • Sodium Lactate
  • Sodium Erythorbate
  • Sodium Diacetate

Are Hebrew National hot dogs certified gluten free?

Unfortunately, Hebrew National’s hot dogs are not certified gluten free. Certified gluten free foods are held to very stringent standards when it comes to production and avoiding cross contamination.

In order to be able to put the label on their products stating that it is certified gluten free, then manufacturers must follow very strict procedures to ensure that their products come into no contact with gluten.

The food is then tested by a third party to make absolutely certain that there is no gluten involved. So, only a few brands of hot dogs are certified gluten free.

Hebrew National is not one of these brands. In fact, they do not even label their products as gluten free.

However, their parent company requires all gluten ingredients to be listed on the label of the food, so if there were any gluten ingredients, you would see them on the list we posted above.

So, is there a risk of cross contamination?

Since Hebrew National’s hot dogs are not officially certified as being gluten free, there does remain a risk, however small, of cross contamination with other products that do contain gluten ingredients. However, we would not worry too much about this risk.

Hebrew National has been producing gluten free, kosher hot dogs for decades with no issues.

If you are severely sensitive to gluten and would rather stick to certified gluten free brands, there are a few which will accommodate your needs.

What brands of hot dogs are certified gluten free?

If you are looking for a brand of hot dog which carries absolutely no risk of cross contamination with it, you should stick to a certified gluten free brand.

There are not many of these, since the requirements to be certified are so stringent. However, there are two brands which can accommodate your needs.

Firstly, Dietz & Watson hot dogs are all certified gluten free. They are certified by the National Celiac Association, and they are tested to ensure that no gluten has made its way into their hot dogs.

However, this brand does make other products which do contain gluten ingredients, so you should still be sure to read labels to make sure you are getting the certified gluten free products.

Secondly, Sabrett hot dogs are all certified gluten free. They are certified by the Gluten Free Certification Organization, also known as the GFCO.

To our knowledge, this brand does not make other hot dog products involving gluten, but as always, check labels carefully to ensure your safety.

Are Hebrew National hot dogs still used at Costco?

As we mentioned earlier, Hebrew National hot dogs were the official supplier for Costco’s famous $1.50 hot dog combo from the time the combo started in 1984.

They were the reason that the company could advertise not only kosher hot dogs, but also gluten free! However, they are unfortunately no longer the supplier for Costco.

In 2009, Costco decided to launch their own brand of hot dogs to accommodate the popularity of their combo. Thus, Kirkland hot dog brand was born, and they have remained the supplier for Costco’s hot dogs since then.

Although Hebrew National is not the supplier for Costco any longer, they still remain a very popular and well known kosher, gluten free brand of hot dogs.

Conclusion

So, are Hebrew National hot dogs gluten free? The answer to your question is yes! These hot dogs not only contain no gluten ingredients, but they are also kosher.

They also contain no additives like artificial flavorings or colorings, by products, or fillers. However, while they contain no gluten ingredients, these hot dogs are not technically certified as gluten free.

If you are severely allergic to gluten or if you suffer from celiac disease, you may wish to stick to a certified gluten free brand of hot dog.

There are not many of these, but two brands include Sabrett and Dietz & Watson. These brands undergo rigorous requirements and third party testing to ensure that they are totally free of any trace of gluten.
