Does Walmart Fix Glasses? (Price, Frames, Lenses, + More!)

Does Walmart Fix Glasses

Have you ever asked yourself or your friend if Walmart fixes or repairs glasses? Well, you are at the perfect place to find the answer to such a question.

Are your reading glasses broken or damaged? Are you looking for a cost-effective way to repair your glasses and avoid the expense of buying a completely new pair? And are you wondering if you can visit your local Walmart store and get the repairs done?

Walmart does repair glasses. Quite often very minor repairs will be quickly done for free, there and then. Walmart will charge a fee for more substantial repairs, with prices depending on the extent of the damage, but starting at less than $10.

In this article, I describe the types of glasses repairs you can get done at Walmart, explain the cost of the repairs, and describe which repairs you might be able to get done for free.

How Can I Get My Glasses Repaired At A Walmart Store?

Walmart is one of, if not, the largest distributor of optical goods in the USA. Walmart sells eyeglasses and other optical goods at its in-store Vision Centers, or via the Walmart website.

Walmart offers eyeglass repair services at stores with a Vision Center.

You can find your nearest Walmart store from the Walmart website storefinder function.

Once you’ve found a store on the Walmart website you can click on the ‘Details’ icon to list the services available at that store.

If your chosen store has a Vision Center, it will be shown here. The details listed also provide the store phone number you can call to confirm they have a Vision Center and opening times.

If your local store does not have a Vision Center, you can call and ask if they know the nearest store that does or use the storefinder to explore other stores in your vicinity.

Many Walmart Supercenters have a Vision Center, so a conveniently located store should be relatively easy to find.

Using the Walmart website, I searched for stores with a Vision Center within 25 miles of ‘Los Angeles’. The Walmart website listed 25 stores for me.

What Eyeglass Repairs Can Walmart Do?

There is a wide range of ways in which eyeglasses can get damaged ranging from a loose screw to a broken frame. Walmart is able to tackle many eyeglass repairs at its Vision Centers, but there are limits.

There’s some great news here, Walmart does not usually charge for small, quick repairs. These include replacing the small screws that hold the eyeglass temples to the frame, replacing nose pads/cushions, re-inserting undamaged lenses that have fallen out, and reshaping bent, but otherwise undamaged, eyeglass temples.

Also, eyeglasses purchased at a Walmart Vision Center are covered by a one-year warranty and so will be replaced, or repaired, free of charge if damaged.

If your eyeglasses are out of warranty and have suffered substantial damage such as a completely broken frame, or a snapped temple you can take them to a Walmart Vision Center and ask whether they can be repaired.

However, in these cases, it’s unlikely that Walmart will be able to salvage the eyeglasses. Broken eyeglass temples are usually not salvageable. And, given that Walmart’s prices for adult glasses start at under $50 it’s often more cost-effective to buy new rather than go for repair.

Other damage such as a cracked lens can easily be fixed by Walmart with a replacement lens.

Walmart will also make lenses for frames that have been purchased elsewhere. The cost is $10 plus the cost of the lenses.

The cost of the repairs that can be undertaken at a Walmart Vision Center start at less than $10. To find out the exact price of your repair, you will need to take your broken eyeglasses to the Walmart store and discuss the damage with a Walmart Vision Center staff member.

It’s worth noting that Walmart won’t replace your glasses if they break during a repair.

How Long Does It Take For Walmart to Fix Eyeglasses?

Those free and easy repairs can be done in a matter of minutes.

More substantial repairs will take longer, and the length of time required will depend on the nature of the damage.

You will be able to wait for some repairs, whereas others may take 1 to 2 days to complete.

Other Options To Fix Broken Eyeglasses

Another cost-effective option to fix your glasses, depending on what damage they have suffered, is to fix them yourself.

Walmart offers DIY eyeglass fixing kits with prices starting at less than $10. These kits typically include items such as small precision eyeglass screwdrivers, assorted eyeglass screws, and nose pads. Take a look at this kit which is available at Walmart both in-store and online:
