One of the more popular brands is the Arm & Hammer laundry detergent. Arm and Hammer is a brand known for its baking soda-based products, which can lead to whitening power and clean clothes.

Aside from the baking soda base, Arm and Hammer laundry detergent is also known for its affordable price.

Is Arm and Hammer laundry detergent good, though? In this article, we are going to look at 8 facts all consumers should know about Arm and Hammer laundry detergent.

Let’s take a look at these facts so you can determine whether or not this brand is right for you.

1.      Arm and Hammer Is Owned By Church & Dwight.

Arm and Hammer is owned by Church and Dwight, which is a major American manufacturer. Church and Dwight produces other household products with headquarters in Ewing, New Jersey. The company goes back to 1846, making them a long-trusted American brand.

Church & Dwight owns quite a few notable brands, including Arm and Hammer, Nair, Orajel, OxyClean, Trojan, and more.

Even though Church and Dwight owns quite a few products today, Arm and Hammer is their first. Church and Dwight was founded by John Dwight and his brother-in-law Austin Church.

The company originally began with them selling a baking soda product they made in their kitchen. With that in mind, Arm and Hammer is the beginning of Church & Dwight.

“The Arm & Hammer logo actually dates back to 1860s. It does not come from the tycoon Armand Hammer, though he did try to buy out the brand.”

It wasn’t until 1986 that Hammer’s company was able to join the Church & Dwight board of directors.

2.      All Arm & Hammer Laundry Products Are Made In York, PA.

To ensure that all products are safe within the Arm & Hammer laundry product line, all their products are made in York, Pennsylvania.

In fact, Arm & Hammer laundry products have always been made in this location since its opening in 2009.

What makes the York facility even more impressive is that the building itself is highly sustainable. It is the LEED-Silver plant that produces many Arm & Hammer products, but especially laundry products.

To date, Arm & Hammer does not show any signs of changing the product manufacturing location.

3.      Arm & Hammer Detergent Is Highly Affordable.

One reason that Arm & Hammer detergent is so popular is because of its affordable price. One of the more popular Arm & Hammer laundry products is the Arm & Hammer Clean Burst Liquid Laundry Detergent.

This detergent is able to last 67 loads, yet it only costs $5.95. If you were to break that down, that would be about $0.09 a load.

Just to put that in perspective, Tide Original with the capacity of 64 loads costs $11.97. That results in about $0.19 a load, which is $0.10 more than the Arm and Hammer variety.

This is a big difference in cost per load. Opting for Arm and Hammer can save you a whole lot of money over time.

Of course, this price is based on one of their more basic products. Even looking at a more luxury Arm and Hammer laundry detergent product shows that they are a more affordable brand.

This makes them a great choice if you are on a tight budget and looking to save a few dollars.

For example, their Arm and Hammer Plus OxyClean Five and One Power Packs come with 42 packs for just $7.97.  In comparison, a 72 pack of Tide Pods in Original cost $11.99.

4.      The Arm and Hammer Laundry Line Includes Many Products.

Based on the prices above, we only looked at two of the more basic Arm and Hammer laundry detergent options.

Luckily, there are quite a few lines within the Arm and Hammer laundry products. For example, there is liquid laundry detergent, laundry packs, and powder.

There is even an entire “Clean and Simple” line with different ingredients.

Aside from the basic laundry detergent, there are also Plus OxyClean Stain Fighters, Scent Boosters, Additives, Dryer Sheets, and products for sensitive skin. All of these products allow you to find an exact recipe that works for you and your body.

QUOTES

One of our team members has super sensitive skin. The Arm and Hammer Free and Clear Sensitive Skin Liquid Detergent is one of the few products she can use. Likewise, she has Guinea pigs who need their fleece liners washed in scent-free detergent.

They also are highly sensitive to certain smells, but this variety does not affect their delicate respiratory systems.

We would recommend starting with one of the more basic products, such as the liquid laundry detergent or the laundry packs.

If you know you have sensitive skin or other needs, then opt for one of the sensitive skin products instead.

5.      Most Popular Arm and Hammer Laundry Product.

As we mentioned above, the most popular Arm ; Hammer laundry detergent is the Arm & Hammer Clean Burst Liquid Laundry Detergent.

This product is really affordable yet effective for cleaning many fabrics, clothes, and stains.

The bottle sizes range from 50 ounces to 255 ounces. Most stores carry the 50 ounce or 75 ounce bottles, but you can order bigger bottles online.

The 50 ounce bottle can handle 32 loads, whereas the 75 ounce bottle can handle 50.

Like any other Arm & Hammer laundry product, they can power through a lot of dirt and odors because of the baking soda base.

The detergent leaves a fresh and clean smell and has a clean rinse, low suds formula. It is great for either standard or high-efficiency models.

The biggest drawback of this product is that it is not ideal for super tough stains.

For example, other detergents are more effective at fighting through wine stains than this one, but this is a great standard laundry detergent for regular loads.

6.      Most Arm & Hammer Laundry Detergent Products Are Biodegradable And Septic-Safe.

Many people are concerned about the chemicals that come inside their laundry detergents. One thing that stands out about most Arm & Hammer laundry detergent products is that they are biodegradable and septic safe.

In 2009, Church and Dwight started to move towards a more biodegradable campaign for all of their products.

This led to the Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda, Liquid Laundry Detergent, and Powder Laundry Detergent being biodegradable and septic safe.

This allows you to rest a bit easier knowing that the product will break down and not clog up your septic system.

That does not mean that you should necessarily pour Arm & Hammer laundry detergent products outside or in your septic tank. This is an incredibly unethical and unsmart decision, but you probably wouldn’t want to do that anyway.

It’s just nice to know that in case of an accident, your laundry detergent isn’t going to cause further issues.

7.      Arm & Hammer Laundry Detergent Works Best For Protein-Based Stains.

As we mentioned above, Arm & Hammer laundry detergent is not ideal for all tough stains. With that being said, this water detergent is great for protein-based stains.

This includes stains that can come from blood, grass, and eggs.

In fact, protein-based stains can lift out of the fabric using this detergent when washing it in either cold or hot water.

The fact that these stains can be removed in both hot and cold water is pretty impressive. Typically, protein-based stains need cold water to be lifted, whereas other stains need hot water.

In case you are unfamiliar with what protein-based stains are, they are stains that are based on proteins, as the name suggests.

These stains are easier to remove, but they can coagulate into the textile fibers under certain conditions, namely when the water is too hot.

8.      Arm & Hammer Laundry Detergent Isn’t Ideal For Tough Stains.

On the other end of the spectrum, Arm & Hammer laundry detergent is not ideal for tough stains. This is especially true for stains like tomato sauce, wine, and other stains that are notoriously difficult to get out.

This may be because many tough stains are actually not protein-based, which we have already learned is what Arm and Hammer laundry detergent is best for.

Don’t trust our review? Insider did a comprehensive comparison between the Arm and Hammer Clean Burst Liquid Laundry Detergent and the Tide Original Liquid Laundry Detergent.

In this showdown, they found that both detergents work the same for moderate stains, such as a stain from a can of Coke.

However, they found that Tide was superior when it came to tougher stains, such as a stain from wine. In this review, they used a white shirt, warm water, and a scrubber to properly compare the two products.

These findings show that Arm and Hammer laundry detergent isn’t the best option for tough stains, but it is good for easy or moderate stains.

Is Arm and Hammer Laundry Detergent A Good Product?

After learning these 8 facts about Arm and Hammer laundry detergent, we have determined that it is a good product, though it isn’t the best for tough stains.

If you are looking for an affordable everyday option, Arm and Hammer is a great choice.

The product is highly affordable, and it has many products for you to choose from. This allows you to save your wallet, all while finding a recipe that is perfect for your needs and skin.

It also should be able to remove mild to moderate stains with ease.

With that being said, we do not recommend Arm & Hammer laundry detergent for super tough stains. As we learned, Arm & Hammer laundry detergent is great for protein-based stains, but nothing more serious.

If you find a tomato sauce or wine stain on your shirt, you should reach for a different option.

With that in mind, it may be a great idea to use Arm & Hammer laundry detergent as your everyday choice but keep a tougher product on hand in the case you accidentally spill something on your shirt.

This allows you to save money most of the time while still being able to remove stains as they occur.
