Does Meijer Sell Car Batteries? (Price, Quality, Types + More)

For those who are wondering, yes, Meijer has an automotive department. Like Walmart, which seems to be right around every corner, Meijer also offers several automotive services to its customers. However, does Meijer sell car batteries?

Both Diehard and Duracell automotive batteries are sold at Meijer. Back in 2011, Meijer made a deal with Sears to start selling their vehicle batteries. From that point forward, Meijer has sold various car batteries in all of its stores. 

Since Meijer’s deal with Sears a decade ago, Die Hard batteries have been a mainstay with Meijer automotive department stores and still are today.

However, oftentimes they are sold out at Meijer stores either because of their popularity or the fact that they are understocked. 

What Other Car Batteries Does Meijer Sell?

Die Hard batteries are sold through Meijer’s partnership with Sears but they also sell Duracell car batteries.

Duracell is not one of the most common car batteries that you can find out there, but they are just as effective as any other. 

The Die Hard Battery, however, enjoys a long-earned reputation for reliability and longevity. On the Die Hard Battery side, Meijer stocks two types of batteries.

The first is the Powercell 58312 Volt Silver and the second Die Hard Battery is the Powercell 75/25212 Gold Battery. 

That’s it, as far as car batteries go. Meijer doesn’t have an extensive history of selling major auto brand batteries, which is why you may find that they are out of stock from time to time.

While Duracell and Die Hard have their own manufacturer warranties, Meijer also has a 90-day return policy, which is plenty of time to test out the battery.

Does Meijer Offer Battery Services?

Outside of selling you automotive batteries, Meijer’s auto department also works with EVs, (Electric Vehicles). Earlier this year, Meijer completed another partnership.

This time, they partnered with EVgo Inc and created an early supercharger station chain. 

At the outset, there were only 5 but the number is growing exponentially. These charging stations are much like the supercharger stations that Tesla uses throughout the country.

There are two types of charging stations on offer, 100kW, and 300kW. 

Both are considered to be fast-charging stations and will get an EV back out on the road fairly quickly. With the addition of EVgo, Meijer is becoming quite the automotive juggernaut out there in the Midwest, where most Meijer retail stores are located. 

EVgo is the largest company in terms of providing a fast-charging station network that stretches across the United States and potentially beyond its borders as well.

With Meijer’s merger, the Midwest retail chain has joined that network to provide services to the gas, diesel, and electric-powered vehicles. 

Does Meijer Sell Car Battery Accessories?

What good would a car battery do if Meijer didn’t also sell accessories to keep them at their best?

Meijer is limited on the number of batteries that they have on offer, with only their Duracell line and merger with Sears. They also sell only a few automotive battery accessories. 

The Schumacher Battery Terminal Red and Blue is Meijer’s replacement battery terminals brand. They also sell the Schumacher SC9 Fully Automatic 10A Battery Charger and the Schumacher 100/30/6/2 Amp Battery Charger/Engine Starter. 

Can You Purchase Car Batteries and Accessories from Meijer Online?

Meijer will occasionally have car batteries available online. The problem is, that Meijer simply doesn’t stock a lot of them, so if you can find some on Meijer.com, you’re pretty lucky to have done so. 

Meijer offers local pick-up either in their store or curbside. When you purchase a battery or anything else from Meijer.com, you can choose whether you want to pick it up from inside the store, in their auto department, or have it ready for a curbside pick up so you can get in and out of there. 

Meijer is also partnered with Instacart, where you will often find the battery you’re looking for if it’s available.

If you go to Meijer’s website directly, it’s often difficult to locate their car batteries, even if you go to their automotive section or type the battery you want in their search engine. 

If you use Instacart, you can have your car battery delivered to your residence or you still have the option of picking it up in the store or getting it delivered to your car with curbside pickup. 

Fortunately, if you can’t find the battery at Meijer because it is out of stock, Instacart will automatically locate another local retailer and either the matching battery or one that is very similar in specifications.

What Other Auto Accessories Does Meijer Offer?

Meijer has a pretty sizeable automotive department in most of its retail locations. However, you are more likely to find specific auto accessories by going to their online store. 

Meijer also has its own gas stations, like Walmart. You can purchase several of the vehicle accessories that you find in a standard Meijer in a Meijer gas station.

However, at most of their gas stations, the car accessories that you find will be smaller stuff, such as customization options in the cab. 

Does Meijer Require a Membership?

Though Meijer may share some of the characteristics of Walmart’s and Warehouse clubs, such as Sam’s Club and Costco, there is no membership required to shop there or purchase anything from one of their departments. 

But, Meijer does offer what they call, mPerks. You don’t have to pay for mPerks to take advantage of what they have to offer, which is mostly savings at their gas stations. With Walmart, you have to pay for a monthly membership to use their Walmart savings and gas perks.

At Meijer’s, no membership is required to take advantage of the perks, deals, and discounts that Meijer has to offer. 

All Things Considered

While Meijer didn’t make its name or reputation by selling car batteries—and probably never will—they have pretty good deals on most of their products in the automotive department.

You will also have to get in line for a battery occasionally since Meijer will often sell out.

Outside of that, Meijer’s automotive department is decently robust and oftentimes, you will find better deals there than you will at Walmart.
