What is the camper package on Ford F250? There are several things offered in the camper package on the Ford F250, including:

  • Increased capacity front springs
  • Rear auxiliary springs
  • Slide-in camper certification, to name a few.

All of these features offered in the camper package will make hauling a slide-in camper easier for you and your vehicle.

The camper package is available for purchase with all submodels of the Ford F250. When purchasing a camper package as well as looking for a vehicle optimized to carry a camper, there are several aspects to consider, such as the maximum cargo weight rating and whether or not you plan on hauling additional vehicles in the future.

What’s Offered In The Camper Package On The Ford F250?

The Ford F250 is a camper certified vehicle, meaning that it is certified to carry a slide-in camper based on the way it was manufactured and built. It’s also a heavy-duty truck and was specially made with the intention of carrying, pulling, and pushing at maximum capacity.

Because the camper package is offered with the vehicle for an additional fee, you will certainly want to know what you’re getting for your buck. With the most recent version of the Ford F250, the 2020 Ford F250, these are the add-ons offered in the Super Duty camper package:

  • Rear stabilizer bar—often referred to as an “anti-roll/sway bar,” this feature makes the vehicle feel more secure and stable as you drive and prevents the tires from coming off of the ground. For instance, a heavy load in combination with the speed of your vehicle going around a sharp corner could cause the rear body of the vehicle and the tires to lose contact with the ground below if the sway bar isn’t present.
  • Rear auxiliary springs—rear auxiliary springs give the truck more support and allow it to carry more weight without the risk of blowing out or over exhausting the primary springs. These are more or less the backup springs, given they are also often referred to as helper springs, and allow the truck to ride more smoothly.
  • Slide-in camper certification—this is recommended for all Ford trucks that plan on being used to haul a slide-in camper. A slide-in camper certification comes with the purchasing of a camper package with the Ford F250 and certifies that the truck is safe to use when carrying a slide-in camper.
  • Signature increased capacity front springs—this is something you will definitely want to have on any truck you plan on using to haul something of significant weight. Also known as heavy-duty coil springs or overload springs, increased capacity front springs take on the weight of whatever is being hauled and absorb it. Having your truck equipped with increased capacity front springs increases the load capacity.

The camper package is available for purchase with all submodels of the Ford F250, including the Lariat, King Ranch, XL, XLT, and Platinum.

The Importance Of A Slide-In Camper Certification

When it comes to installing a camper onto your Ford F250, you’ll not only be happy that opted for the camper package, but you’ll also be grateful for the slide-in camper certification that’s sure to come in handy now!

It should be noted that the slide-in camper certification is all the more reason to purchase a camper package. With this certification, certain guidelines for installation and hauling are outlined as well as the most important part, the papers certifying the vehicle to carry the slide-in camper.

“Trucks equipped with the Ford camper package also come with a slide-in camper certification plus a consumer information sheet that spells out important loading instructions and maximum capacities for that specific vehicles.”

Ford recommends that drivers who plan on using their truck to haul a slide-in camper obtain a slide-in camper certification prior to doing so. It’s recommended against hauling a camper without one due to warranty agreements and restrictions.

To purchase the camper package, all you simply have to do is select it as one of the add-on packages when you initially purchase the truck. The option code for the camper package offered with the Ford F250 is 471, and this should be selected when purchasing the truck.

Before purchasing a camper package, consider going over the maximum cargo weight ratings and such outline in the 2020 Ford RV & Camper Guide here. In this guide, all of the wheelbase information, as well as important engine information, can be found.

If you have a Ford F250 with the camper package, it’s possible to get the parts needed installed on your own. However, it’s best to do so through a certified dealer.

How Much Does The Camper Package On Ford F250 Cost?

Considering a brand-new Ford F250 can set you back between $25,00 upwards to $45,000, this truck comes with a hefty price. With the camper package included, the price increases upwards, of course, but it’s nowhere near as much as the vehicle itself.

How To Install A Camper On Ford F250

When it comes to installing a slide-in camper on a Ford F250, it’s recommended that you measure the slide-in camper as well as the dimensions of the truck bed before installation. This part of the process is very important as a slide-in camper is quite heavy, and you certainly don’t want to estimate the wrong measurements!

When placing the actual camper onto the truck, make sure there is adequate space above the headboard of the front of the truck and between where the front of the camper rests.

If there is not enough space to prevent the camper from coming into contact with the headboard of the truck, you may need to place a platform on the bed of the truck.

“A dimensionally stable block spacer is recommended between the headboard of the pickup box and the forward edge of the camper floor. Resting the spacer on the pickup box helps prevent movement and contact of the fully-installed camper with the pickup box headboard or taillight rear pillars.”

When measuring for the slide-in camper, there are several things you will also need to consider, such as the overall height of the camper itself and the estimated height of the camper on the truck. Additionally, depending on the type of camper, you may be required to purchase a platform for the camper to sit on in the bed of the truck.

As always, consult with the dealer or Ford manufacturer from which you purchased the truck before installing a slide-in camper. Doing so will allow you to understand how to go about properly installing the camper onto your truck as well as any other important details you should know about.
